Hi guys

I have a disco 3 2006 diesel and the engine seem to be ****ing out oil, the mechanic seem to thing it could be coming from the crank shaft seal or cam shaft seal.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks

Yes it has happened typically due to incorrect installation of a new seal.

It’s a very specific seal with a special installation technique and method that needs to be followed.

Most likely the lower oil pump crank seal but you’ll see immediately the timing belt cover is removed.

Make sure you have the latest oil pump if you disassemble that far to replace this seal. It’s another $300 well spent. In fact, it is mandatory for early D3s you have the updated oil pump to avoid engine failure.

Yes I totally agree, if the seal isn't put in the right way and doesn't get crimped while fitting.
As I have been told by Mario, when customers use to ordered the seal from us.
You have to be careful when fitting them. Heather

I agree with all the previous posts. Once the crankshaft seal starts to leak it can very quickly progress to a total oil loss with catastrophic results for the engine.
