Situation: I have a D3 with the V6 petrol (ford engine), I pulled the transmission to replace the rear main seal. On start up the engine has a misfire and will not idle. (no issues prior and timing belts previously done). Error "A Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Retarded Bank 1" plus I get misfires across all banks.
Questions: Does the position of the Flexplate matter?
I think the crankshaft position sensor runs off the flexplate (not sure). Appreciate any advise before I go off and pull the transmission again.
Thanks

Yes, it does matter. You're right. The sensor reads if the flex plate and can be installed incorrectly. It needs to be marked when it's taken off. There is a way to time it, I have a look in the manual and get back to you

No timing belt on the 4.0 so I assume you mean the timing chains of which there are 3.

Irrelevant either way to the issue of the crank sensor trigger being out of place due to the flex plate incorrect positioning on reinstallation.

There is a hole in the flex plate, when the engine is at top dead centre cylinder 1, the hole is at 3 o'clock https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230724/aedbf1b7dce68a86dc83e941f81276bf.jpg

Out of interest, I take it that there’s no workaround and the trans needs to come out again?
