View Full Version : Body off - what opportunistic preventative maintenance?

Surprisingly I did find something on this already in The D3 D4 Sticky Zone < https://www.aulro.com/afvb/the-d3-d4-sticky-zone/ > with a list of what opportunistic preventive maintenance should be done when the body of the vehicle is off. Have I missed it somewhere?

In a month our MY12 D4 TDV6 with 200,000km is having the body lifted to repair failed vacuum pump damage. I'd rather avoid the body being lifted any more than necessary so am interested in any recommended preventative maintenance to consider at the time.

*might as well replace the rear drive belt for the high pressure fuel pump. (although was it already done at aprox 40K ago?)
*handbrake overhaul kit or maybe just some spray lube down the handbrake cables
*compressor overhaul kit or at least replace the dryer kit.
*lube the turbo actuator linkages

*not related to body off but... if the timing belt was done 40K ago was the top coolant outlet replaced at the same time? if not then do it.

none of the above have to be done with the body off, its just easier.

Thanks Dazza.

Yep, was done three or so years ago at the scheduled servicing mark.

*compressor overhaul kit or at least replace the dryer kit.

Fitted a brand new genuine Hitachi compressor only two months ago after the conrod in the old one snapped and crank bearing destroyed itself around.

*lube the turbo actuator linkages

Is just lubing them sufficient? Just did some Googling on this and a lot of posts talk about replacing the actuator but perhaps that's UK owners who have serious corrosion issues?

Just to add to Dazza's list

Sway bar bushes

EAS valve block "O" rings

Check tension of the vacuum pump bolts.

Double check for any cracks, loose bolts etc on the exhaust cross over pipe.

Again, can be done ( with some difficulty ) body on, much easier without though.

I'd add a good clean. I'm doing a pretty serious over haul on my Ducati at the moment. It's a great time to get in with a brush and degreaser in places I can't normally get.

What about the coolant plastic dog leg fitting?

Definitely do this one

1316063 CONNECTOR TUBE (https://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/1316063-connector-tube-694825-p.asp)

Lives to rear of water pump behind the turbo to intercooler pipe. Should have good access with head off otherwise it’s a deep dive through the wheel arch.
