With a canopy I really have no need for a opening rear window.
In any event it's covered in silicon, the rubber and felt needs replacing, etc.
Perhaps putting a fixed window in might be a better option?
Anyone done this?

I've done it. I just removed the frame from the vehicle, took to glazier, who cut a piece of tempered glass to suit. In my case one of the glass panels had shattered, and this was the easiest solution at the time.

Too long ago sorry - I can't remember. Probably the original seals. Mine was not very old at the time. I'll try to remember to have a closer look at it

Hey mate were you able to establish if its an original seal?If you are looking to replace the original bailey channel seal with a better one on the rear sliding window, I can get a part number for you. It doesn't rattle at all, the original was junk from new.
If you are modifying it I can't help.

I'd appreciate the part number anyway as I may yet just replace what I have. Ta :)

Hello All,
It would be really good to have a photograph of what window is being discussed. I read the word 'ute' in the 90, 110 and 130 Defender section and I had to come for a browse. Especially, the bit about a part number for a better type of bailey channel for the sliding rear windows. My 1993 Defender Snowy's seals and channel need replacing.
Kind regards
Lionel

I got mine from rubberonline.com.au.
The part number is : 64-143.
It's a bit of work to do it, but I doubt you would ever need to do it again, it seems to be a pretty robust product.

Sorry - I misundestood the question. As others have said, Bailey Channel. I got mine from Spectrum Rubber and Panels Pty Ltd product no 350.360 - not sure if they are still going, website doesn't seem to work.

If you just want replace it with a singe sheet of glass, you maybe able to use a wind screen rubber from the place Shack linked.
Windscreen Rubber (https://rubberonline.com.au/collections/windscreen-rubber)
You would need to remove the original window frame, which would leave rivet holes, and I don't know if the remaining panel would be stiff enough.

Here's another option for Bailey channel supply. Spectrum closed down some years ago, and another company took up their catalogue. It might've been this mob.

Ta would I need to buy additional products like felt, rubber etc? What about the bit between the windows, assuming I reuse the glass I have?

I just got the single sheet of glass cut to fit the original frame. Fit with bailey channel. Rivet frame back in. Done.
Sorry about the crap photos ... no light in the shed.

You will need the Bailey channel I mentioned, a number of rivets and some silicone to seal the window back onto the car.
Nothing else is needed, the Bailey channel rubber is the only thing in the slot that the window runs in.
Factory setup was just some poor quality felt material.

I think there should be a piece of rubber between the two sliding panes to stop / limit water ingress?

I think there should be a piece of rubber between the two sliding panes to stop / limit water ingress?Yes, sort of a wiper thing that pushes onto the vertical edge of one of the windows.
