Hi folks, picked up my D300 SE 110 yesterday. Now wanting to paint the silver front and rear bumper to match with the black body color. I went to a local panel beater and received a quote for $1850 and there may will be an additional $600 on top for a technician to recalibrate the cameras. Feel its way too expensive. Just wondering if anyone has done this?

Removing the front bumper is time consuming- check out the YT video from Powefuluk.
That might be part of the cost.

Just wait until you also try to get the bash plates and undertrays off to give the vehicle a good clean after it has been on the beach,or in the mud.
Then put them all back on.

They must have designed it with the thought it would never go off road.

Another wonderfully well thought out LR design[bigrolf]

I can just hear two blokes on the Assembly Line just doing a final check on the nuts & bolts.
"Last one Bernie. That'll show those L Plate posers who reckon they can carry out repairs on these bloody cars so see if they can get these buggers undone. Carn Bernie lunch time".:Thump::Rolling:

All good until you try to get a jack and stand under each corner. Was fun juggling jack and stands when I rotated the tyres at the first 5000km. Need to find or make an adapter for my trolley jack....

Find someone who will mask and cover the area and spray in situ if you want the simplest and cheapest job.

Before that it’s the designers and engineers, how can we make this vehicle as difficult as possible for anyone to pull apart or work on?

"Don't forget the Stealers Bernie, they expect to make a huge Motza out of our consideration for the Workshop Hourly Rate after all, we are a team"

Something like this, my mate was spraying his camper van so opened the tailgate to see how the colour matched the un-faded paint inside and it knocked the can off the bumper into a Stanley knife with the blade slightly protruding on the floor, puncturing the can and covering his shoes and hands in paint before he could throw it in a disused cabinet drawer in his shed where he was working. WOT? The fact they buggered up the Paint Mix & it came out a Bilious Purple doesn't' count?[bigrolf]

Judging by this YT video the price quoted seems quite reasonable.

Talked to my panel guy on doing the painting. He's going to do the front bumper in place to avoid all the dismantling. I'll pull off the fog light surrounds and I'm taking the rear bumper off for him to paint.
I think this is the most effective approach.
Will take some before and after pics - likely sometime January.
