Rooftop tents for L320

havent been successful in a forum search on this but I am sure I wouldnt be the first to ask.
Has anyone put a rooftop tent on their l320 and what style of rack was used .

Will the factory rails hold the weight ( circa 170kg plus tent ( 70kg) ).
I thought I would have to get the metal flat tray for it to go on?

I used the Rhino racks tracks and just two cross bars to mount a James Baroud roof top tent with no problems on the highway or being thrown about in vic high country. The James Baroud is only about 50kg, a bit more aerodynamic that the fold out canvas type roof tops and because it only pops straight up there could be less strain on the racks when in use ( ie depends on the design of the RTT you use).
Not sure if racks verses bars makes a big difference more than the number of legs and method attached to the roof. The L320 roof has provision for fastening tracks to the roof with with 5 M6 bolts each side. Factory roof load is 75kg.

I will investigate the Rhino rack rails and a few crossbar then.
Note peterjj that you stick a wheel up there as well as the roof top tent. I might look at 3 or 4 cross bars as suggested to ensure I am not overloading it.
From the photo do you have a winch installed on the front? If so could you post a photo of how that was installed.

I have the Rhino longitudinal roof tracks fitted and they were easy to fit. I have two of the Rhino roof bars fitted to that - again easy to fit. I do not have a roof top tent but have a normal basket type roof rack bolted to the roof bars. I would use a third cross bar for a roof top tent.

The only issue is the shape of the RRS roof - is higher at the front so what is on the roof sticks up a little unless the height of the rear feet can be adjusted higher - mine cannot.

Could do a simple spacer between rail and cage and would work [emoji41]

Had the same on the D4,and now the LC200,with a JB tent,and Rhino Batwing awning.
Used two HD bars,with tracks,like others have said,a third bar is a pain as it has to be packed to line up with the others.Although Rhino do have the packers,and longer bolts to suit the HD bars.
And for a JB RTT, not needed.
The set up on the D4 was on the limit for it's specified roof load,but no worries on the LC as it is rated double the D4's roof load.

Travelled all over the countryside,lots of corrugated roads,etc,etc,no issues.

Our JB weighs around 65Kg.
Note also they specify a distance from the front of tent forward of the front bar,i think it is around 450mm,which is no problem as the bars can be moved along the rails.

Will review the path of the Rhino rails.
Called into ABS and 4wd warehouse and niether had any rack suitable for the Sports. In addition, the light loading of the roof is a concern for putting a bit of weight up there.

I am not using mine anymore, they have been removed and are available for sale if you are anywhere near Canberra. Might need a coat of paint on the rails.

Yep, that particular model tent has wheel shaped indentation and tie downs on top. Our wheel was a bit heavy for the tent so it didn't go up straight.

No winch. The strap you can see was for something unrelated.
