Roof Rack Recommendations

Friends, about to take delivery of a D4 2.7 TDV6. I'd like to add a roof rack, to use mainly as a camera platform, with access off the tailgate.
Any suggestions or recommendations?

Pricewise cant beat Kings.

I have one on an Amarok, been up and down the 3 N/S tracks in SA and twice across the Simpson, no probs , check all the assy nuts and bolts regularly.

Depending which rack you buy gives you many options for assembly and relatively easy to change how you use it at a later date.

Regardless of how good you are you cannot assemble in 2hrs as instructional video shows. Mine has 64 nuts/washers/bolts....all stainless steel, but if you can loose assemble everything as you want it , you still wont do it in 2 hr.

I went with the Rhino Rack as the car already had the Rhino runners installed.
Didn't go with the backbone as this would have meant removing runners.
Didn't go full length or width either. Can't remember dimensions but can get them if you need them.
Well made, quite sturdy, not the cheapest option though.

I got the Rhino pioneer platform with backbone 2128 x 1236 (https://www.rhinorack.com/en-au/products/roof-racks/cross-bar-roof-racks/pioneer-platform/pioneer-platform-2128mm-x-1236mm-with-backbone_jb1364) instead of the wider 1426 version and have been very happy with it. I think it suits the roof profile better.

I was concerned about wind noise but can't notice any even with the windows down. I bought the eye bolt (https://www.rhinorack.com/en-au/products/straps-accessory-holders/load-securing/eye-bolts/pioneer-eye-bolt-kit-4-_43178) kit which makes tying down loads much easier.

But beware of the load capacity (https://www.rhinorack.com/en-au/load-rating-calculator). After adding a solar panel and lights, you can basically only carry a roof bag of blankets or clothing 'officially'.

I've carried a lot more weight on shortish runs with no concerns whatsoever.

Load capacity for the Disco is way to easy to exceed, 75kg and that includes the rack and all mounting bits[bigsad]
allow 25-30kg for most racks

Good for the light and bulky stuff like swags, containers etc. not somewhere to store a spare wheel.
