With the temps in the high 30's on my recent camping trip the dometic 3 way struggled to keep a decent temperature, i have seen some fan kits advertised but not about to spend over $100 for a couple of PC fans and a bit of wire.
Anyone done this to their fridge ?

I did to my Engel when I fitted a digital temp controller. The fans were old PC fans I had.

See this thread: Has anyone fitted temp control unit to an Engel? (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/camping-tucker-and-bush-basics/214072-has-anyone-fitted-temp-control-unit-engel.html)

Something similar to what I will do,have read about using a normally open thermostat switch to turn the fans on and off.

Yep, used 2 cheap PC fans on my old Franklin when I ran a 3 way. Worked well and got a few extra degrees out of it but still struggled when the temps were high and you really want a cold beer so I ultimately ditched the 3 way and put an Engel in like this - Engel Upright Fridge 95 Litre - AC and DC - Engel Australia (https://engelaustralia.com.au/shop/upright-fridge-and-freezers/engel-upright-fridge-95-litre-ac-and-dc/)

Expensive yes but worth every cent. Draws 3 amps when running and a 100ah battery and a couple hundred watts of solar keeps it happy.

I want something like that for the OKA, but at $1650 maybe I'll stick one of my house fridges in there[bighmmm]. Course, I'd have to spend more than that on batts and a huge inverter.... This living off grid **** is expensive.

600 watts of solar, 300AH of lithium and a 3000 watt inverter - that’s what will comfortably run my coffee machine and leave enough in reserve for 3 fridges, lights, chargers etc. [emoji16]

If you have the room overkill the solar - it’s cheap now so fill every available spot and have a couple of hundred watts as a portable setup for when you’re camped in the shade. I have a 20 metre lead and don’t use a charge controller on the portable panel, just run its straight into the main victron solar charge controller.

I wouldn't waste the time or money, you are much better off putting the money towards replacing it with a compressor fridge,Bushman,Engle, whatever.
They are way more efficient than a 3 way.

I use my 50ltr waeco for drinks so a couple of extra degrees cooler will be fine for the food but i was considering a 12V compressor fridge option, i have enough battery capacity and solar.

I disagree, 3 ways have their place and work quite well and efficiently on gas just struggle a bit in high temps which the fans should help with.
