View Full Version : D3 TDV6 2.7 possible diesel leak

Got a strong smell of what I take to be diesel around front of the vehicle, I suspect of being a fuel leak somewhere, cant actually see anything dripping out though.
It is running normally.
I do have a very slight power steering hose leak, but does not smell like that sort of fluid.
Any likely places to check?

Top engine all around the injector lines and return hoses.
Fuel cooler which is under the engine.
Should be reasonably easy to spot.

thanks mate will have a look later and see what I can see. I would have expected fuel pressure fault codes if it was leaking??

No it leaks quite happily on the delivery and return side with no codes or loss of performance

had a look at home and there is what looks to be weeping in vicinity of rear drivers side injector but nothing noticeable when engine is running so assume it is probably the clip broken or come loose on that return line.
I can see accumulated wetness but not a puddle per se.
Will probably need a set of return lines. There are a few youtubes of blokes doing them, Shanes Shed and Outback discovery.
It is going in to have the auto removed and sent off to be made shiny on Monday so might even get him to do the leak then while he has it.
cheers

Have ordered the parts.
- Leak off pipe P/N 1386505
- Leak off pipe clips P/N C2S32276
Hopefully they arrive Thursday and I can get the job done, not looking forward to it at all.
Better buy myself a pair of long nosed bent pliers and pinch pliers too.

Not a hard job but be careful to not lose any clips. Stuff rags down where ever you can and keep a magnetic pickup tool handy.

Indeed, that is the plan, I have ordered clips just in case. Have several magnetic tools ready.
Will give it a blow out with the compressed air and squirt some contact cleaner to mitigate dirt getting into the orifice.

Bust couple of days. Fitted new injector leak back lines, fiddly, lots of swearing. Big thanks to 'Shane's Shed" for the how to videos.
Also did EGR blank and removed the pipes & butterfly. FW patch from BAS loaded.
Took it for a run and seems to have more down low.
Monday it goes in for the transmission to be removed and sent off for overhaul.
cheers

Good job. Was it obvious why was it leaking?

yes mate you could see the wetness around the injector and where the leak off pipe plugs in. It is quite common I have found out.
What I have noticed though is that the pipes that run down to fuel cooler and up to the top of the pump are not clamped, just pushed on. Looking at the pipes where they fit over the pipes I can see no signs of a clamp ever being these.
Is this normal? Anyone know?

There’s three nifty clamps that hold the supply and return pipes in parallel up the side of the motor and on top. They are plastic and snap easily especially if you don’t know they are there. I bought two new from LR at some ridiculous price. I noticed later one of the shops LR Direct I think has them.
You should see the remnant broken base of where they attach

those are all missing on mine, the pipes are flopping about. I put a cable tie on them as a temp measure.
Would you have the P/Ns for those?
Ridiculous price, it is a landrover everything is a ridiculous price! [bigwhistle]

ok thanks for that. any idea on those hoses on top of the pump as to whether they should have clamps?

No clamps they are quite rigid once the pipes are secured
