I need to replace the T'case in my 97 130 Defender .
Have looked at the videos etc.
What is the best practice with the larger sump [ flat bottom ]
Should I make a plate to fit the jack , bolt it on , or does it balance ok without it .
I have the original cover , can use that too and make the plate to suit that .
Anyone's experience would be greatly appreciated .

If you search Mike’s channel I’m pretty sure you will find a jig he made. I don’t have time to look so I’ll just post this as a starting point.

I have built one of these. it made removing the transfer very easy. I took the turntable/ lift plate off the trolley jack and fittied the lifting bracket to the jack in it's place using a short bit of suitable pipe welded on to the base.

Cool. I might just pinch that as well.

Got the old one out with a hydraulic lift table , balanced quite well on a block of wood with the flat sump cover .
Quite doable on my own . Hardest part was 10 years of oil & dust & mud to scrape off under the Landy , looks nice now .
Hope the other one goes in as well .

If you can fit some dummy studs to guide it on it's good, cos it protects the seal etc.

If I remember correctly, 10 x 100mm gal coach bolts with the heads cut off and a slot cut in the bare end with a hacksaw (allows use of screwdriver to get them out when the new TC is fitted)

I used quite long ones , too long , I had to remove them before I could lower the T case .
They need to be longer than the shaft that feeds through the seal so as not to risk damaging it .
Britannica resto recommended one bolt to retain the head so as not to risk the T case sliding off unexpectedly , probably a wise precaution , could end very badly .
