Just had an intruder in my house - looks like he was looking for the keys etc for our 2020 Golf R 7.5. They got the RRS fob instead and unlocked the RRS and rummaged through but doesn't look like they got anything.
He then re-entered the house looking for the Golf keys again and passed up on the keys for the Haflinger and the V12 Jag - it was then that I pinged him (thought it was my flatmate being noisy) and he was off like a jackrabbit out of the house and off on foot.
Unfortunately he still had my RRS keys (and house keys, garage keys, letter box keys etc) and they are not to be seen. Police called and they will finger print the RRS glovebox and the doors to the Golf tomorrow. In the meantime I have disconnected both +ive and -ive battery leads in case he comes back tonight and set up my trail cam to watch over the car. I am sure if he does come back and tries to lift the bonnet, having the bonnet lever on the passenger side will confuse him - but then he really would want the Golf as a high performance car.
So tomorrow I will replace the house locks but not sure what happens with the RRS key fob. I have the spare so I can lock and unlock the car but so can the thief. So how do I change or get changed the security settings on either the car or my fob so I can lock and unlock the RRS but the stolen fob cannot. In due course I will get a new fob to replace the stolen one and get it coded to the car but is not urgent at this time.
Of interest the MO of this intruder is exactly the same as happened almost 4 years ago but nothing was taken from my place though neighbours were done over - the crook was caught about 4 weeks after the even and my flatmate and I think it is most likely the same guy revisiting likely places after being in gaol. If the cops can get some prints it might confirm this.
Oh RRS and D3 security systems are basically the same, hence posting in the D3 section.
Thanks
Garry
