View Full Version : Windscreen Ventilator - missing Hinge and pins

Hi
When I purchased the 80" It came with a detached Windscreen Ventilator and only one hinge, on the Drivers side.
I have looked at the Parts list, found the part numbers and searched online by name and part numbers for a hinge but have had no luck so far.
I have found a reconditioned wiper motor - not cheap but original
and a replica air pre cleaner
I will gradually get a few missing bits together

Any guidance where to source the Ventilator hinge - would be great. I guess could make one - but would need an existing one as pattern etc (pdf of hinge attached)
cheers

Totally different to the Defender.

I wonder if any of these might fit?

Thanks
I have one pin on RHS so will measure that up and check - I reckon something there will be close I hope

now for the hinge - that will be the hard one!

cheers

I'm confused....you say you have one hinge but you need one as a pattern for the other side ??
From the .pdf they look identical but assembled differently.

It should be straightforward making a replacement but you'd have to machine up a rivet to join the two pieces.

Finding a replacement would be an easier option......best of luck.

thanks !
Yes - all though they have different part numbers - you are right - you could simply invert one part to use as a pattern for the other.
Yes If I could find one and buy/swap it etc to would be easier !
but that might be the fall back - make one using the RHS as a pattern
Always good to have a different set of eyes !
Appreciate the thinking!

Yes, although they are left and right, it's a pretty simple hinge. Completely baffles me how something like that could be missing! Are the rivet holes there where the hinge should be mounted?

Thanks
I agree it is a bit baffling, but I think there is a simple reason. When I inspected the car in sale process - it had no ventilation flap/plate. The seller had one in a shed off a different S1 that suited. One hinge was on the car was missing. So I guess thats why. Yes there are rivet holes in the body and the flap...just no LHS hinge.
It also had no wiper motor or arm/blades etc - lucky they are easier to find - not cheap though!
Overall - I think I am lucky it has most things and is in reasonable condition for a 72yo!
Cheers

Windscreen wipers I can understand, as they only came fitted with one from the factory.

It's a very crude arrangement. Ideally, to open the flap the two links should be operated at the same time, which is impossible to do while driving. A 'one at the time' operation puts a lot of strain on the aluminium "L" brackets, and the 2 spot welds will eventually pull out. The unattached flapping about links make it a PITA to raise a lowered wind screen..W.

BSF - Thanks
I agree
Perhaps this why it evolved to a different form later on ....improvement
I dont think I will use it much - haven't go a roof - so no problems with ventilation! I will get a canvas top as well - I think too much ventilation will be the problem not too little!

I just want to get it looking right and functional
cheers
