My old man wanted a bull bar for the tow rig 2009 TDV8 L320 Sport, so I spoke to a few people who know about these things and did a bit of research online.

It's been done before, lots of pretty pictures to see and apparently not that big a deal. I even had a few RRS at my place with bull bars on them, so it's easy right?

Basically everyone says "the D3 bar fits just needs slight modification" and " there is a gap under the headlights that needs to be filled in"

The second statement is true, the first statement is not.

First of all I can only presume that nobody ever fitted a D3 bar to a 2007-2009 TDV8 which has the additional radiator on the drivers side. Which is not there on a 2.7, 4.4 or 4.2SC.

And second, slight modification clearly means different things to different people. And nobody has ever properly explained what the modifications are.

And thirdly don't buy a bar from Opposite Lock.

The amount of time & effort that has gone in to making this bar fit will never be worth it.

193875

Modification to the main brackets to move the bar forward and down
Inserts fabricated to fill the gaps under the headlights
The two panels on the sides had to be fabricated to clear the additional radiator on drivers side & the washer bottle on passenger side

And in the end you need to remove the bar to get the grille out, to get the headlights out, to change a bulb.

Not worth the drama.

The ARB bar has the same problems, and in the beginning we were trying to fit an ARB bar but the OL sales guy says "ours will fit but it needs a little tweak" well that was a incorrect.

Anyone who wants to fit a bar to an L320, my first reply is don't bother, but if you insist then get your wallet out.

Thank you, I would have made the same mistake.

We put an O.L. bullbar on an L320 2.7

We were told to get the one for a D4, not the D3.

We had no issue at all fitting it, bolted straight on. It does need filler strips under the headlights and down the side where the original bumper fits into the fenders.

You can't remove the headlights without removing the bar, but with slight modification on the grille, you can remove that.

You also can't remove the headlights on a D3 with an ARB bar either.

Cheers
