View Full Version : Alternative to HVT-70D secondary battery

Has anyone found something suitable with the same footprint? I'm looking to replace mine as it's dead? The Fullriver 85 seems to be the most equivalent and best quality I can find.

Capacity-wise - no.

I was looking at it and read something from drivesafe somewhere that an al-rounder works well as a second battery when using a Traxide setup. The lower capacity was not an issue for me but maybe for you I know.

No, I couldn't find an alternative either. Are you sure the battery is dead or has it just tested that way? I ask because I returned mine after two years and showed them my test result. They immediately tested it themselves and it showed a similar result and replaced it without question. I suggested we test the new one and we both tested it as 35% life left. When I got home I charged it up and the next day it tested "replace".
I gave up at that point and just installed it and it seems to be fine. I'm wondering if there's something in the construction or BMS (does it have one?) that confuses electronic battery testers. My tester is from Bond Batteries in Ballarat and I've no reason to suspect it, but it was designed for wet cell and AGM batteries from 15 years ago.

Hi Dale, did that battery fit width wise, because I just checked the specs for that battery and there is an MVR50 of the same range but is an 80Ah battery and is just 2mm wider than the MRV48 you posted up?

I fully charge it and within no time it’s drops to sub 12v. Seems cooked to me. Also causing erratic behaviour with the Traxide.

Yes it did. However the MVR50 has a terminal height of 222mm which is 8mm more than the HVT-70D. As DiscoJeffster asked - it does have the same footprint but it is taller.

Based on the dimensions (particularly the height) and being comfortable with a 60Ah for my intended use I chose the MVR48. I have not given it a lot of extended use but it seems to be performing well.

The height is actually about the same, when you allow for the additional height of the cable and VERTICAL bolts on top of the HVT-70LD.

Whereas, with the MVR50, the bolts are fitted HORIZONTALLY and add no additional height.

BUT, I am not in a position to test one.

Yes the bolts are fitted horizontally as per the attached photo of my MRV48 insitu.

However as per the advertised specs, that measures 208mm to the top of the terminals and so I believe the MRV50 will also be as advertised and 222mm to the top of the terminals.

As that battery is mounted in the battery compartment on the drivers side, then yes, only the MRV48 will fit.

The MRV50 fits in the Traxide battery tray which mounts on the other side, just in front of the cranking battery compartment.
