TD5 Alternator Repairs
Dropbox - Alternator tutorial.pdf (https://www.dropbox.com/s/q3ihgqk75os46o5/Alternator%20tutorial.pdf)
TD5 Alternator Failure - Something To Check Guys, something to check if you suspect you have a failed alternator in any TD5, Defender, Disco or Range Rover. If you are getting zero out put to your batteries from your alternator, before rushing out and spending a fortune on a new one. Check you have brake lights operational. If not the likely culprit is a blown brake light fuse 10A. The alternator output to the batteries is also fed through this fuse, so if that goes you have no charge. A 20c 10A fuse was the solution.
Had this last night and feared a new alternator required just before going to Broome. Only found the solution to this by accident when trawling the net. Go's to show check all the simple things first even if you dont believe they wil be relevent.

This from mturri:BigThumb:
Although partially iterating here's my recommendations after having done several manifolds
-If warped first cut webbing then enlarge stud holes (except those for centre cylinder), and only then reface (if needed that is)
-Replace all studs
-Use Class 8.8 or stronger studs (alloy steel, quenched and tempered)
-Smear with copper based anti-seize compound
-If using longer studs DO NOT screw all the way in (see how they come installed from factory)
Modified exhaust manifold after a high temperature paint treat:

Found this listing of ecu part numbers for V8's and TD5's. The formatting is "as is".
The following example shows part number NNW004290 is a NNN000130 with programming to suit a Pre-Facelift D2 TD5 Auto.
NNW004290 NNN000130 NNV001070 NNS003670 000000 000000 A0016 4159 20092001 21092001 0 THUNDER
(Storm_T525_Engine)(AND)(NOT)(MY02)(AND)(Auto_tran s)(AND)(Engine_Tune_Change)
I'm curious as to what the Engine Tune Change was?

Not really sure to what purpose, but took the text file as posted by Paul and through intensive sorting, cross-referencing (e.g. with Nanocom Map Wizard) and quite a bit of guessing came up with the attached table (zipped MS Excel file), which again is presented 'as is'... also only the diesel bit (Td5) was done.
The 'Tune Change' feature is related to Discovery (either auto or manual) ROW maps that are suitable for the earlier EU2 engine.
Rgds
Matt
PS: have a jpeg screen snag of the complete table, circa 2500 x 1200 pixels, and was trying to work out the php/vB code for embedding it within a scrolling frame but could not get my head around it. Anyone knows how to do it pls advise.

Have continued to work on this list, and through data gathered from numerous ECUs was finally able to correspond the LR map codings to the Nanocom Map Wizard ones. Think I have right, but stand to be corrected, anyone knows better please let know.
Here below is a sample, Excel file attached to post.
