Came home the other night and had the lights on. Turned the key to stop the engine but it would not stop. Tried it a few times and did not stop. I think the fan stopped and the lights in the dash weren't as bright.
As soon as I turned the light of the engine stopped

Has it been raining there in the past 24 hours. If so then there's you problem. Nah not the rain, lucas mixed with water. Somthing under bonnett has shorted out

If the alternator was still spinning with the engine and the electricals switched off I'd check to see if your alternator still charges.
It isn't the cause of your problem but it may have occurred because of it.

I thought I found all the leaks :p
But it hasn't rained that time or before it. Also we could need some rain (on tank water here).
I thought about the factory integrated turbo timer but could not find it in the handbook ;)
So it looks like my electric is killing its self slowly. Why am I not surprised. Looks like that Disco has many features I'm not aware of
Edit: I tried it again today and of course it didn't do it. I had the boat at the back and just thought maybe the electric of the boat was wet and had something to do with it ??

If you have a D1 Disco I know exactly what it is - on a D1 on the instrument binnacle there is a button, left side top inner, for the "extra" driving lights, and if you don't have them but the button is depressed (ON) then there's the issue. That's provided your taillights are cross wired - as in - when you hit the brakes and the otherwise unused foglights are used also as braking lights - simple! LOL

As our motto at work says
It's not a bug its a free feature.
Good luck finding it.

I think I made a descriptive mistake re my previous post.
The button on the instrument binnacle (top left inner) operates the rear fog lights (hi intensity red on the body, not the bumper lights).
Anyhow, if this switch is somehow crossed, you'll probably have what you've described and something else maybe - press the brake pedal and your hi beam should come on!
And the engine will keep going after the you've turned the key to 'off'.
I'm not sure about the update D1 (been a while since I was in one) but from memory they're pretty much the same as the pre update version.... methinks....
the long and the short of this, is, don't turn on the rear fog lights and then see what happens......

Fog lights ?
They are left hand side second down. First is rear windscreen heating.
I had no fog lights on when it happened.
High beam never came on with the breakes.
Not sure about the boat theory. After I took the boat out of the water I stoped/started the car at least 4 times within 1 hour. As we grabbed something to eat. Usually It's never that late that I have the lights on with the boat at the back. I have to try it next time. Right now it seems to work again.
