Hi

there are a number of cheap ODB II scanners on eBay, has any one tried one with a 2002 Defender TD5?

Strange this question should pop up, I have one, and just this weekend at the Wandin 4x4 show I had the chance to try it out on a TD5.

No it doesn't work.

It works fine on my V8 Disco II

.........but it didn't work on Ray's (Hiline) TD5

From the manual - it seems to depend on the amount of connections/wires in the socket on the vehicle - and when I tried Ray's I noticed there were only a few wires into the diagnostic socket under the seat.

Not sure what year Ray's TD5 was/is

I believe the OBDII socket on the V8 and Td5 is wired the same. I suspect the issue is that the system cannot hand shake with the Lucas Td5 ECM. No Td5's in the USA!

Correct, only talks to Bosch Motronic V8 D2. And lots of other makes also, but no Td5, GEMS or EDC etc.

I have an OBDII reader also and have worked out that it is no good for clearing the ABS/ETC/HDC lights which is what I got it for. It was worth the chance.
