the strutt's i use have a ball joint on the end. had to drill one 5/16 hole in the inside of the wing top. only on the pass side there is a hole in the drivers side thats got a clip in it for the radiator over flow pipe bracket.

ps. one strutt will do the job but it must be around 300nm. the two i use are 150nm's each. i had bigger ones but they were to long:mad:

Let's workshop this for a minute.
You HAVE hexed yourself, but for the sake of the argument let's just think you've been extremely unlucky. Scenario is:
1) Schtuffed oozidoobit has stopped forward progress.
2) Fender is now known as "flunking piece of schnitt car".
Now, if we're doing this in style.
1) Schtuffed oozidoobit has stopped forward progress.
2) Fender is now known as "flunking stylish piece of schnitt car".
So there we have it. For the extra pfffft struts instead of a poo, you have a poo with sunglasses.
Was it worth the extra?

the only thing you gotta watch is the angle the bonnet pops out of the hinges at.......
i found out the hard way.....i was holding up my bonnet pretty much where you have the strut......
and as i was doing so i must have lifted it just a bit too high.....it popped out of the hinge and tried to land on my head......
i caught it just in time.......with my hand.....not my head.....
all it was...was it just over balanced...pivoted on my hand......and the front dropped lifting the back out of the hinges.......
but its definitely a great mod.....i never thought of fitting them to the bonnet......
just to the back door.......
good work.....

That's great, in an accident where the bonnet latch gives way, the bonnet can spring up as a windscreen shield.

I would say its excellent preventative maintenance:)
We all know if your bonnet is hard to keep up, or you have to work around the stand thingy that normally keeps it up, you end up having it up all the time:mad:
A bonnet that is easy to work under will never need opening, it's part of murphys law, I'm sure:twisted:
I'm currently doing the heads on the Disco, and getting reallyu p*ss*d at the bonnet stand which is in the way all the time:mad:

For most serious work under the bonnet of a Defender you fold the bonnet back against the windscreen or remove it altogether - and it seems to me that the struts would make this more difficult.

I was thinking the same thing, maybe they have quick release fittings at one end. I tried fitting struts to my Brumby bonnet many many years ago. They were a bit strong and mounted wrong. The bonnet wouldn't shut and just tried to fold in half!

nope, just undo the to little clips on the ends and pull the strutts off. nothing to unscrew/undo.

arnt you a silly duffer then??
mine is at the same height as the support would usually hold the bonnet up, so no probs there:D

Do you have the spare on the bonnet ?

I think it's a top piece of installation - and so many other cars have bonnet struts....
might just get to the wreckers a grab some from a dead falcon or such....
