I will start with "Forgive me".
I went to the Watagans with some Toyo friends on the weekend and have brought embarrassment on the landy name.
We went with 2 Discos and 6 Toyos,
First, an over enthusiatic water entry left my beloved V8 silent in the middle of the water trap:cry: I have been told the pic of my stranded Landy will be sent to 4WD Monthly by my Toyo mates ( I did drive out after restarting).
Then both Discos got hung up (and had to be rescued by the LC80) in a spot where the Prado waltzed through:o
The Prado did die after exiting with excessive water consumption. And the LC100 blew his front diff and was trucked home, but no photos as it was 2hr wait for the towie (I know, I should have waited for the photo opportunity)

The first time I ever went 4WDing with my brother-in-law (diesel GQ Patrol) and his brother (diesel Jackaroo), I went through a similar puddle and killed the ignition on my '86 Rangie. Oh the embarrassment - and the ribbing I got for ages afterwards.

A new set of ignition leads after the event fixed that problem. It never occurred again.

At least I recovered some cred when the Rangie powered up a rocky hill with no problems but the GQ took several attempts and the Jack even more. Oh, they were also impressed by the RR's articulation, so much so they took photos.

It was one of those holes you drop into and then climb out of, we were nearly out when she gave up:( You can see how the back is lower in the water than the front.
It has new leads (8mm) and new everything ignition wise, just really dirty now.
The TDi Disco had no problems with it. The second hole was deeper, above the bottom of the door, and with a better entry I had no probs, just got snagged on the diffs. It was mainly the embarrasment of a stock Prado out doing both Disco's in this hole that bites. 3 recoveries for the day, 2 for me and one for the other disco.
Taller tyres and some trimming in order I think;)

Mate at least you were out having a go. I did nothing but sit on my bum most of Easter.

By the sound of things it was not only Landies in trouble, the LC 100 did it's front diff as you said.:)

That's a bummer. Didn't realise that Prados were so good, I always slag them off as being SoftRoaders.

Better get that V8 waterproofed.

Don't forget the Prado has LSD in the rear which gives it an advantage (unless you've got lockers)... You still should have beat it! :p

Your not alone mate...I headed up to the Big Desert, Border Track and Little Desert only to stuff my serperntine belt, idler pulley and harmonic balancer on the highway coming back! Travelled the rest of the distance on the back of a tow truck! Got really good consumption though! lol

Hey DBunny; I'd blame the driver before the vehicle:twisted:

And at least YOU didn't go home on the back of a heavy lifter, unlike one of the Toyotas:D :D :D (why do these things keep breaking diffs? made from used banana peels? or is toyota getting them from the Chery QQ:twisted: )

I think that recovery cancels out any little tows out of a bog;)

More horsepower next time, you'll either get thru or the pics will be even more interesting!

Cheers, GQ

I would agree completely:D the stall was my fault, too enthusiatic after watching the TDi go through.
I was a little hesitant on the next one which was deeper, but she didn't stall, just got snagged, the TDi got snagged in the same spot. The Prado launched his way through and coughed and spluttered his way out and died.
I haven't done much water before, so am still learning how to get the V8 across, I'm leaning towards, slow entry and then power through, will also consider a tarp.
The Toyo boys were impressed that the Disco's on stock HT's could keep up through the mud, they were running MT or agressive AT's.
I did point out that at the end of the day, all Land Rovers were safely tucked away at home:D The trouble is, they have pics, and without pics, it never happened:p .

That's what I thought too.

How stock was the Prado? From my experience, they're more likely to scrape their rear diff than a stock Disco is. I'm suspecting (cause the Prado has no front live axle and a flimsy bash plate to slide on) it was your front diff that got more caught up, am I correct?

But there are 5 cars in that photo so I'm assuming its the 3rd from the front (maybe... I don't know I'm myopic anyway :p )

Either that or that's what they're all looking for in the puddle ...

I wasn't having a go mate.

I did exactly the same at Levuka a while ago, a bit too fast and drowned the whole show and it stopped... but being a good Landy it fired up after a few minutes and clawed out of a 2 foot deep bog and then up a slimy mound, even the panicky passengers were impressed!

btw, no mud or water entered the cabin, 14 years old and still very solid, my D1... goes anywhere i want to go.....

Well you should be:p I let my Landy down and I feel bad:(

The Prado is waiting to enter the mud pit whilst the TDi is getting towed out.
Mud in the Cabin - the TDi opened his door to see how deep it was:oops2:

There is a yota swallowing mudhole a few km's away from that spot.
