Im replacing all the bearings on the pullys system and Im in the middle the job now, but I need help......
Ive done the two bearings on the ac side of things , but I cant get that stupid circlip out of the main alt belt tenisoner pully!
Its not the normal type, ie no holes but the ends are angled back, so whats the best way to attack it?
Looking forward to hearing from you soon

If it is really stuck, use a pin punch and a small hammer and tap one of the angled bits inwards, then get a screwdriver in there:)

this style of circlip gave me greif in my hilux days on the front axles.
Circlip pliers + Swearing + small screwdriver to lever once the circlip pliers opened it up a little was the best method i found...

...then the screwdriver slips and you have a hole in your hand.
Been there, done that with the blasted Disco idler.
Then, when I was reassembling it with the new bearing, the screwdriver slipped again and badly dented the bearing shield. So I had to get another bearing. :(

I saw a site in Seth Efrica once where the guy cut a space/slot in the rim of the pulley . He machined it, but a Dremel would be OK with a HD cutting wheel. You can cut the circlip, then replace it with a conventional one.

A pair of small long nose pliers work well, if you dont have a spare or replacement circlip/spring clip, make sure you put a rag around it so you dont lose it.

you twist the screwdriver not lever it out.. to start with
after you twist and it starts to move you lever it a little with the second one enough to lift it a little, then work your way around...

That's how I did mine. Came out easy.
I only used one small electrical type flathead screwdriver though.

Thanks Lads.......:)
Jobs done thank christ for that !
I ended up while with the help of vicegrips just putting the small screwdriver under the end of the clip then put the other under and ran round the clip until it came out........cant want to do that again.....NOT
But I did chip out a Little of the edge of the pully, but I just put the gap of the clip there...... :)
But the best part of the whole deal was the bearings cost $3.18ea:eek::D:D
Now its purrrrrring like it should be. Also just for the hell of it I took it for a drive......and guess what, it go's much harder now :eek::eek::confused::confused::confused:
But it Looks Like the bearings I took out may have been from when she was built......., if thats the case they did a great job for 268,000km worth of service......:p

I bought a cheap set of circlip pliers for about $4 at a market one day and wondered what this pair with strange square ends on it was for until I had to do one of these and it works a treat.
I have done plenty in the past by getting a centre punch and punching it in the middle, this then bends it so the 2 ends are closer and then pull it out with pointy nose pliers but you do then have to replace it with a circlip with holes in it.
But if it is still stuborn you can always heat it to red hot with an oxy, this makes them kind of curl up and you just pick it out with pliers. WARNING though, dont heat the pulley too much as it can put them out of shape but if you have a very small tip e.g.no.6 then you should be able to just heat the circlip pretty quick and safely remove it before the heat gets to much into the pulley and let it cool slowly so it doesnt go out of shape or harden and become more brittle to the point that it cracks when you fit the new bearing.
