Recently picked up a cheap 96 Discotaxi for the Handbrake.
Starts and runs beautifully 'till it warms up a bit then the problem starts.
If I drive about 1 or 2 kilometers them pull up to give way at an intersection or roundabout (Its a Disco not a Volvo...), it idles fine but when I go to take off it coughs and dies.
Restarting it is a cast iron bitch, how can a Fuel Injected motor flood?
It reeks of fuel, and when cranking it verges on running but juuust not quite starts and runs. I've tried Aerostart, showed it a big hammer even pulled a box of matches out and swore at it but it won't go till its good and ready, then it will run fine all day.
Is there a temp sensor or something that could be U/S?

Sounds like a tempsensor or the cold start injector on the top drivers side of the plenim or try here http://www.britishv8.org/Articles/Rover-14CUX-EFI.htm

G`day

Could be the ecu coolant temperture sensor

The one on the inlet that has a connector plug like an injector connection plug.

If you put an ohm meter on it and it`s open circuit that`s the problem .

If so a 170 Ohm resistor can be fitted after its warmed up , to get out of trouble short term .

The throttle position sensor may be out of adjustment/range and could be a cause but the first place i`d try is the coolant sensor . ( not sender )

If you find a cold start injector then you have more trouble .

Cheers

my money is on the ignition module

..........& that has been discussed here recently.
A temporary "fix" or proof was to tip a bottle of cold water over it or hold a wet rag on it.

Cools down, works ok again ............. that's it.

Pulled both the Temp Sensor and the Plenum Injector, cold start injector was covered in an oily sludge so I cleaned it off.
I'll have to get a multimeter onto the Temp Sensor, I can't find mine so I'll do it at work tomorrow.
After that its a process of elimination I guess..
Thanks all for your help so far.

Cold Start injector? 96 Disco?
That is your Stepper motor, which adjusts idle for load.
I concur with ECU temp sensor, and TPS.
and maybe coil and /or ignition module.

Lokka called it a cold start injector in his post, its actually the Bypass Air Valve
The Ignition Module you refer to, is that the Pick up coil amplifier on the side if the Distributor?

Yes, I have never had one go but it is common and they seem to fail from heat. IE they go OK until the engine bay gets hot.

I suggest you do an injection diagnostic, which was posted on the forum a couple of months ago, and should be found with a search.

If the MAF fails , the car should still drive OK as it will be in "limp home".

Its hard to be pedantic( or easy depending on who you are!) but my first thought is that he TPS is worn just off idle . But it should not cause flooding . Also this should cause a big "flat spot" if you are overriding down a hill then put your foot back on the accelerator.
