Slipping clutch. Possibly something else, but most likely the clutch.

Could be incorrectly adjusted pushrod on the master cylinder, but at that mileage it could quite easily be the clutch itself. Check that there is actually free play on the pushrod - you can do this by removing the cover plate on the pedal box. There should be 1.5mm free play on the pushrod - the exact amount is not critical but there has to be some to make sure the clutch fully releases.
As a long shot loose dirt acting as a one way valve in the hydraulic circuit could cause this effect, but it is almost certainly either the master cylinder adjustment (more likely since it has just been replaced) or the clutch itself.

Knowing they have just replaced the slave cylinder in the last few days, I would say it needs to be adjusted properly.
Though your not resting your foot on the clutch pedal are you Ray? I only say this as if there was heaps of play in it before hand and that allowed you to get away with it, now it may not have enough and that could be causing the slip.
I have come accross this before but mainly with a few female drivers that dont think about what they are doing.
Failing that then your clutch is probably worn or glazed, did you take it swimming on the weekend at all? this can cause slippage which then can cause hot spots and glazing.
Hope that helps Ray and Im not picking on your driving mate, just a suggestion as sometimes we do things that we dont realise were doing.

I reckon it's the clutch it-self. Let us know what it is when you get it sorted.

Hiline, Is that Fender of yours a Td5? If so, I would do the clutch ASAP, as the flywheel CANNOT be machined, and with all that slipping.....You will end up buying a new Dual mass flywheel at about $900.smackos:eek::eek:As well as the clutch kit!!!!!!!!!
If Tdi, don't panic quite as much.:(
