Hello Folks,
I am just finishing the removal of the old paint from Series 3 Ute cab rear section, Before i go to the Auto paint shop and get some paint matched for Yellow Pezza, i should probably work out exactly what I am going to get. So, what I would like to know is,

What is the best thing to prime Aluminium with prior to painting?

and, What can I use to inhibit corrosion in aluminim, for the areas i am not painting?

I know of a few products in the world of aviation for aluminium treatment, but they usualy of the same $$$ price tag as the rest of the industry!:(

Any Ideas
Cheers, Paul:bangin:

Etch primer is what you need for painting aluminium.

Aluminium will not corrode if protected from moisture or protected from contact with other metals, so a sealing coat to penetrate any joints and keep out water is indicated.

When painting mine I disassembled the body so there were no joints that did not get painted on both surfaces.

Hope this helped

Yep, that is pretty much what I am doing to all the ute pannels, pulling apart as much as i can, particularly Aluminium to Steel joins, and cleaning up dents as i go.

I will hit every thing with the etch primer tommorow!

Thanks JD

Don't forget that only a thin coat is required with etch primer.
