I thought it would be good to kick off a thread listing sources of common parts for the 4BD1...

In Melbourne:
Patterson Cheney Trucks:
200 Cheltenham Road Dandenong 03 9215 2300
open 0830 - 1730 mon-fri

Westar Trucks:
150 Whitehall St, Footscray 03 9689 7611
open 07:30-19:30 mon-fri, 7:00-12:00 sat

Westar Trucks:
Cnr Hume Highway & Northbourne Rd, Campbellfield 03 9305 3155
open 08:30 - 16:30 mon-fri

www.isuzu.com.au (http://www.isuzu.com.au) for the rest of their network

they don't have everything for the 110 version as some ancillaries are not isuzu sourced, however if it is bolted to the block (not attached via hoses) they will definitely have it in stock. For hoses and the like, I typically go through fwd.com.au

The few engine parts I have needed came from Fred Smith in Melbourne. Starter was overhauled by a local auto electrician who had no problems getting parts, same for alternator.

I have found that the thermostat listed for this engine by Repco is not the right one.

I have bought a few parts from Zenith Enginering (Isuzu industrial engine importers) in Brissie. Apparently they made some of the very first adaptors to fit Isuzus into early Rovers. I actually bought the last one they had. They had to make a couple of parts to make up a complete kit. Bloody good service and knowledge.

I have a project Isuzu 120 underway and cann't source the alternater and a/c compressor brackets.
The bracket that I have for the alternater wont allow me to fit the a/c so I need both from an engine that had a/c.
If these cann't be found is it possible to cast them from a borrowed set of brackets?
I brought some brackets from a truck and they are very different to the landrover ones and dont allow me to fit the larger a/c compressor.
Thanks, David.

I looked at pulling off my ac bracket a while ago, the compressor was chucked long ago. However, it seems it was bolted on before the engine was installed. Id give it to you, but i'm not pulling my motor out to remove it. I'm in Narellan if you want to come and have a look at it though.

I have a totally non-standard compressor set up if you are interested in photos?

Rather than emailing you the picture I am putting it here so others can see it. Not really very easy to see the setup, but this should give a reasonable idea. The bracket mounted on a couple of spare tapped holes in the head, and has a threaded adjustment onto a similar unused hole on the timing cover, cranked to keep clear of the alternator. Note the hole in the bracket for the heater pipe.

Thanks John, that gives me another idea to play with. Hope your feeling better after your fall yesterday.

changed the oil cartridge today and had to use a cartridge listed as a 4bb1 motor...cartridge has hole one end size of 5c piece other end about 1 1/2"...4bd1 cartridge has holes each end the same, and smaller than the rod that screws into pump...anyone experience this?

Yes - the filter on the Landrover installation is different from the filter in other applications, as the filter had to point up to avoid hitting the front diff (and to make it less likely to get knocked off by sticks). But catalogues that list by Landrover rather than Isuzu seem to mostly get it right.

Buy yourself an industrial engine filter housing (cheap) and use screw on filters. Mine uses a Ryco Z419 I think and you can easily get better quality filters. It still makes a mess when you change it but they are available everywhere and you can easily remote mount a filter if you want and reduce the mess when you change it.

SuziWreck in Fairfield were great when I was in Sydney. Might be worth a try.

For engine hard parts contact SMS Diesel in your state on 133767.
I am a bit biased here.... mainly as I'm the WA rep!!
