I bought it in about 1975 from a property at Peak Downs near Capella Qld. They said it had been parked in the house padock for many many years. Solid towed it back to an exploration camp I managed. Cleaned the points and plugs Gravity fed some petrol to the carby - old elect pump not to good- put battery in - started - went for a drive. no brakes etc but hand brake worked.
1976 moved work location so put on back of FJ75 cruiser and moved it home for storage and later rebuild. Hung in shed for 30 years - yes that is HUNG - recently moved it to Rocky Property Chassis is bad it but have another that may be ok.
It is in original bush repair condition which I think I should write up before rebuild as it is interesting to say the least.
When I get a digital camera going I will fully document it.
It is possible it may have been associated with the British Food Corporation that set up out there after WW2 and later went bust.

Unfortunately I do not have a drivers door. but I do have a set of later s1 doors possibly 107 as they are grey and straight backs

86,88,107 and 109 Series 1 doors are identical (and different from 80" doors, of which there were at least two types). But the Grey paint (if original) does strongly suggest a 107 or 109.

107 I reckon - it swings on the hinge mounts on the 80.
I think I know where I can get a door, fingers crossed!

The significant difference in 80" doors came with the 2 litre engine in 1951, and was the introduction of an outside door handle in place of the canvas triangle in the door top. Given a pattern to work from, it should be relatively easy for any engineering shop to make a copy. Except for the handles, I think the lock is the same as later Series door locks.

We recently visited a bloke in Toowoomba who is slowly restoring a 1951 S1......he had a door skin that a mate had made for him ( I think it was sheet aluminium he'd used). It looked pretty good.
I think I might be able to pick up a door from a friend remember seein it laying in a padock.

Further to this though not 80 related. 86 and 88 rear tub are interchangeable, but the front guards are different (longer on 88) 86 front guards should fit 107, and 88 front guards fit 109.

That number does not seem to be in the CKD list for 1950, so is most probably a fully assembled export vehicle from Solihull.

No the engine number will rarely match the chassis number, they are usually within several hundred of each other. Yours quite possibly the original.
Have you tried the British Motoring Industry Heritage Trust in the UK? They have the original dispatch books and this usually includes the engine number and colour.

I believe that is correct.

Yes the front end was moved 2" further forward to clear the 2 litre diesel engine. And therefore the 2.283 litre engine fits in very nicely thank you.
Regarding the doors, they are basically similar from 1954 through 1958 however the perspex is replaced by glass for the fixed panel and the machined 1955 window locks are actually better that the later dicast types.

I believe that is correct.
Yes - deliveries of 88 and 109 petrol versions started at the end of August 1956, but the diesels did not eventuate until June 1957, possibly because of poor sales of existing stock resulting from the the Suez crisis and consequent petrol shortages.

Diana,
As posted above...the CalVin website usually indicates if the S1 was CKD...it didn't for Roverrays when the number was submitted...supported by your list then :D
Pat
The system where you could identify destination market and CKD from the car number didn't arrive until the 1951 model. (1666**** RHD & 1636**** LHD) Up until that time the pre-fix "R" or "L" indicated Right Hand Drive or Laft hand drive CKD units were not indicated in the car number at all. In fact Land Rover CKD models only started coming to Australia in 1950, all 70 CKD 1949 models went to Dewar's in India.

OOps...
... Where do you store all this knowledge Diana?
I push all my nursing knowledge out so I can fit in the Land Rover knowledge. However with 3 nursing certificates and a Nursing Masters Degree as well as others in Science and Public Health I can afford to loose some of it:D:D:D
You can't possibly be blonde :D:D
No my hair is usually red, unless I haven't dyed it for a while (like now) when it's going grey :(:(:(
Mind you, while trying to retain all this info I am also trying to cram a 2yr nursing course into 4 months...I will not make it at this rate but maybe 6months if I get stuck into it :D
:BigThumb: Keep at it half a qualification is no use at all.
C Ya
