Is that in Stornoway Gray?

Not real impressive about the cross member bolt.....

How are the comfort levels?

Great report by the way!

I would say that bolt is only for locating the box in a cradle or jack for fitting/ removal.

Must be a fake one with a plastic engine for display only ... no oil .. no LR .. :)

Adding to the funny crossmember

Pic 5. cable ties holding engine wiring harness, also ****fully run through the engine bay

Pic 23. Joiners in the middle of hoses with untidy clamps

When will they stop building vehicles that end up looking like one of my engine conversions:mad:

Did you try the rear seats? Would be interested to know if they have made them comfortable enough for more than a 5min trip ;)

Very comprehensive set of pics there :D
I did, not like a sofa ;) but seems better than before. Personally I prefer sofa style without any pre-molded corrugations for back side profile where you can make you own deeps :)

Pitty, no low rev pulling power compare to remapped TD5, some correction/remapping required...

I do not have AC button picture (lower that control panel), in short words AC starts working after pushing that button even if speed switch in position "0". One of advantages of new ventilation system you can select now (like in most other cars) to use cabin air to circulate/cool down.

That tweater(s) helps to get an idea what is on a radio while doing highway driving.

Other thing, I think very important, all doors are still, fitted better than before and opening/closing procedure much easier now. What worries me is rust can go easier too.

I'm afraid there are some positives, and some negatives IMHO. Nothing there that makes me feel a desperate need to trade up.

on first Eyeball from those pics, speaking as a mechanic that engine bay scares me a little Im going to have to develop a whole new level of the land rover part tetris installation game.

what the hell happened to the hand brake? looks like it fell down a bit.

cant wait to get up close and personal with one to pic it to pieces... But I can see again the engineers put comfort ahead of practicality... The AC compressor is up high where its total lack of high current electrical componentry is nice and safe whereas the alternator is down in the guts where any crud and corruption can make a mess of it.

but then they did the same thing on the TD5... but at least they kept the compressor below the rocker cover height.

At last some reasonable pictures of what its like! Well done.

Few negatives though:
That exposed ECU against the firewall is a real issue. I'd expect the unit to be sealed but it looks like the plugs are just into the side where moisture and dust can attack their seals.
Don't like that hand brake drum though I suppose it really depends on how far back on the ramp over area it now sits.

Also a question:
Where's the air intake/filter is the intake still on the driver's side mid way between door and wheel where the vent is and is the filter now a plastic box up front?

Would have thought short of mounting it to the turbo it is probably one of the hottest spots you could mount the ECU too

Those "DIY" threaded holes are there to mount the rear seats...

Good point. It would be impossible to shield as I doubt there'd be any airflow to cool that part of the engine bay.

So that means they are designed to support a reasonable weight? Could be interesting to see how people use these.

looking at the gear ratios,,
the extra gear is a low first?

Hey NM!
does Gandalf have anti-roll bars?

That is a low first:o nearly 63:1 (if my maths are correct)

Not sure about Gandalf Pedro, but if you read the specs for the new one, anti roll bars are only on the 130.

This image always reminds me of the old Toyota HiLux and, especially, lifted HiLuxes (I haven't checked the current model).

Their transfer case hangs down so low below the chassis that it has a small rearward facing guard.

Land Rovers don't need that as that are tucked up so well.

The handbrake drum hanging down like that is indeed a worry - ding that and you ain't going nowhere !

Looks like an opportunity for someone to come up with an aftermarket bash plate.

When my old thing was new back in 1997 I got a large plastic bag full of assorted hardware from under the El Cheapo, badly slashed-into-shape rubber mats. It looks like the tradition is being kept up!

Thanks, mate :)

The air intake position the same as TD5, I think a snorkel shape should be the same too. The air filter box on that picture behind the bonet stick on LHS

Hehehe!

What's a real Defender without a layer of fine red dust inside? :D

Actually, I'm not really all that keen on dust.... :whistling:

I snuck a quick look through the technical workshop manual and the exploded diagram of the Ford Transit Diesel (PUMA).

It shows that there is a single oil squirter under each of the four pistons, presumably to help keep the pistons cool. That's reassuring to know that the motor is quite likely to be a long lasting motor with oil squirters keeping the pistons cooled.
:twobeers:

In fact it's so low, when in Lo-1st, the engine idle speed is raised to approx 1200 rpm. This is done to help stop the car sliding down slippery slopes (too much engine braking) rather than driving down!

I don't believe that the Nissan ZD30 has oil squirters under the pistons....

I tried googling for this last year and couldn't find any reference to oil squirters for the Nissan pistons.
