Feeding cable from the engine bay to the tow hitch area.

Hi All,
I have bought one of the Traxide SC80-LR units & want to install some HD cables from the region of the aux. battery (in the engine bay) to near the tow hitch (so that I can also charge a battery located in the caravan).

On my D1, I did this by removing the A pillar trim & running the cables up there & then "chasing" them between the roof & the roof-lining. Now, with the air bags on the D3, I don't think I can do that.

Any "sensible" advice appreciated.

Ive almost always done that by first of all routing a bit of pull through string into a length of garden hose then threading the garden hose along the inboard side of the chassis if not inside the chassis itself then pulled the main power cables through after zip tying the hose in place.

I've found the yellow 'tongue' from particle board flooring handy for poking through hard to get at places - stiff enough dut still flexible enough to do the job.

I have some "yellow tongue" for exactly that purpose, but am concerned about the airbags in the A pillar.

I did this very job this week on my D3 but used the LHS chassis rail rather than the RHS one but the left or right should be similar.

Had to do a similar thing when I first got my D3. The goose who'd installed the anti rust system had cable tied the chassis wire along the length of the LH chassis beam (or whatever it is you call it) and of course it got snagged on my first outing.

I found a hole in the beam near the engine bay and feed the wire to the rear end inside the beam, then out again.

There seems to be a consensus forming here.

1. Feed the cable through the chassis rail, &
2. Either LHS or RHS rail should be OK, although slightly more seemed to have used the LHS rail.

I will probably use the LHS rail myself, as (at Drivesafe's suggestion), I could set up a suitable junction for take-offs for 12V outlets in the rear of the D3.

Sorry, still prevaricating (reinforced by the inability of the dual battery out of my D1 to fit the D3:mad:).

Based on another members suggestion, I contacted Supercharge, but nothing but aggression from them - so they can stuff it (& I hope it shorts :twisted:).

Still considering alternatives.:(

Yeah, I had the battery hunt fun again yesterday too. Found a 44Ah REMCO that looks as though it will fit, but maybe not with the factory bracket. Am now after the 55Ah Varta that RichardK uses - but the local supplier has no stock, so is seeing how long it will take him to get one.

I was going to use the Supercharge, but someone on here did and found the factory bracket also doesn't fit with it.
