depends a lot on the pad material.
Some have bedding in info in the box (Ferodo)
Most modern compounds these days just drive lightly for the first 200 or so km to snub the material into the disc and drive normally.

Have to say, after installing my first set of Ferodo 4WD pads a few years back was seriously underwhelmed with the braking performance after following their recommended procedure, so the old DS11 pad trick of a couple of huge stops generating green fade then 20 min of driving to cool everything off sans brakes and the buggers were transformed.

I've always done the huge stops thing,,,
(especially on parents/sisters cars)
but its been, what? 5-6 years since my last pad change:cool::angel::D

most i have come across require you cure the pad by heating them up.

about to get some for the back end of the fender so will let you know :P

all you are doing when fading them is burning out the resin binders used during manufacture.
Most these days are already done, to greater and lesser degrees before the pads leave the factory. Most race pads are pre-bedded (or burnished in US speak) these days.
