Hey Guys,

I have a question about my door seals in my defender..

The problem i am having is that whenever you get in and out of the car there seems to be a lot of dirt falling into the door seals and clogging them up. It is a pain in the ass to get the dirt out of there and it just seems like a recipy for disaster, in the way of rusting?

Any advice in this area would be great, or even a modification that can solve this problem would also be appreciated?

Cheers Dave

Dave, I bolted a 3*10mm steel bar along the flat part of the rubber. Obviously, dirt still accumulates in the crevice there, but it stops the seal being pushed out and little stones etc getting wedged in the gap.

Cool idea, thanks for that. So did you remove the seal then attach your steel bar then attach the seal to the bar? Not sure visually how you have done it?

My seals had been pop-riveted on, so when I drilled out the rivets, the seal came off. I then marked up the holes for drilling the steel bar to match the rivet holes - 8 for the front doors. Then bolted the support bar and seal straight on.

You do realise that the dirt may actually improve the sealing ? Cant be any worse :p

That is possible but the rocks do seem a bit of a problem ;). It dosent really matter but it just seems like a little hiding spot for rust to start, and that is the last thing i want.
