Standard Spare Wheel carrier coming apart

The latest niggle on my Disco, which is having a bad month so-far, is the studs on the spare wheel carrier on the rear door, are pulling out. The lower one broke free a few weeks ago and now a second one seems to be pulling loose. I'm only putting the spare on with the standard wheelbrace, not using a rattle gun or anything... :(
So weld them in place? Or just get a replacement carrier?
Anyone else had this problem?

weld them but dismount the whole carrier first and weld them from both sides.

yea, long time ago,,
after the simpson,,
take it easy on the welds where the wheel bolts on
(as opposed the door side;))

doesnt take much to stop the wheel from sitting flush.

If worst comes to worst and you can't fix it by welding, they aren't a terribly expensive an item.

I broke one recently and was told that you couldn't buy the studs separately. Apparently they are different to those in the wheels ??????
Can't remember what I was quoted for a complete carrier - all I did was went to the local bolt shop and got a bolt with correct thread, cut length down to what was required (the nearest I could get was slightly too long) and welded bolt in from the back of the carrier. Haven't had any problems with this since.

Seems to be a common occurance, my bottom stud was missing and a bolt in its place. I bought another carrier that i will weld the studs both sides before re fitting and using the spare one for my camper trailer.

I think the part number of the carrier changed about 12 months ago. THe new one is made of thicker metal to help prevent cracking issues. It might be worth getting one of the new ones.

Any idea if this is a D1 only problem???
I only ask as Im about to fit 2 D2 wheel carriers to the off-road trailer Im building.I went and looked,the stud mounts seem OK.If it effects D2,its easy enough for me to re-inforce the carriers whilst Im building the trailer.

The problem I had was on the D2 Andy, but it doesn't sound like the same problem reported here - I broke a stud rather than it pulling through the carrier. The reason mine broke was that when I had the new and slightly larger tyres fitted, the spare didn't clear the bumper bar properly. The guy at the tyre service shut the door with the spare on the carrier, and the bottom stud snapped. The thing that surprised me was that I could not buy a new stud - was quoted for a complete replacement carrier. Hence the use of a bolt.
