Hi,

I ordered in a one piece rear ladder for my fender from my local Oppy Lock store. The dealer was going to fit, but rang me and said it was not legal as it obscures part of the number plate. It looks like I will have to go for a 2 piece one. Does any know of a one piece ladder that does not obscure the number plate?

And you can't re-locate the number plate?

Seems moving the plate is the best idea. It seems odd to me someone would not do that. Even if you fastened it to the bottom of the ladder.

Send a PM to Discowhite. He made a number up last year, and they don't obscure anything.

The problem isn't relocating the number plate, the wheel carrier seems the obvious place, it's the wiring for the number plate light

I needed a ladder for my Defender, and went down to the Marine shop in Williamstown, and got two mast steps. One is mounted just below the number plate, and the other at the junction of where the two wall sections meet. Folding step, to lower mast step. Upper mast step, to rear tyre.

All up cost less than $15 dollars.

Cheers,
Ken

Look into the factory one, I presume its legal if its an approved accessory.

It's not full length, only the top half.

Not my car but the same ladder and rack as on the Blue County, (Is it standard LR accessary?)

Is very solid due to it's steel construction, I see no reason one could not be built up to a modern 110.

Due to having the Hayman Reece towbar (not actually the one shown in this pic) :D

Wow - that's a great looking towbar! ::p

This is the DWE ladder we have courtesy of Disco White

Due to having the Hayman Reece towbar (not actually the one shown in this pic) we cannot have a rear step, so we use the lifting handle as the rear step to get up on the ladder :D

Thanks for the feedback. I noticed that you have a rhino rack fitted. I have just fitted one and in the install they stress not to put any of the support legs over the window section in the roof. Have you had any problems with mounting one of them over the roof window?

I find it hard to see how one might avoid putting the support leg over the giraffe viewing window  Unless you have a couple ft of rack hanging off the back!

And that towbar does look good on our Defender - thanks again.

This is a result of me being anal and liking things to look even:D. The only problem with the leg over the Alpine Lights, is that they press up against the rubber. I have thought of moving them, but it would throw out the balance.:p I might move them.........it goes against the grain though.

Are we then to assume you defender has perfect door alignment and gap seals ? :)

Hannibal Safari version, comes with a bottom step that bolts to the cross member. They are sold with the roof rack, not sure if you can buy them as a seperate item.

Pedant!!!!:p What I should have said was that I prefer the balanced look of evenly spaced roof rack legs.

No I step off the towbar or open the rear door and use that as my first step.
Cheers Iggy
