Hi Mick
If you have a workshop manual its real easy.
I did mine.
I had trouble re-fitting the dog shaft in the hi-lo part.My boy was watching/helping,he was around 6yo at the time.He pointed out that I had the shaft back to front compared to the pic.:mad::mad::mad::mad:
Mutch easier than doing a real gearbox.
Make sure you get new bearings/shims and shafts for the transfer section. This is where your wine comes from, not vineyards!!!!
Lots of Series parts specialists in the country to order the bits thru.
GOODLUCK

A kit with bearings, seals, thrust washers and gaskets cost me about $440 from memory. That did not include any new gears or shafts. A new intermediate shaft for the transfer box was about $72 from memory.
You really don't know what you might be up for until you get it apart and inspect the gears and shafts for wear.

I got some parts from 4WD Motors at Yeerongpilly and some from 4WD at Blackburn in Melbourne. There are other suppliers around but I haven't used them.

You can get by without any special tools but it is easier if you have access to a press for the bearings and make a spanner for getting the nuts of the main shaft. I didn't have either but still managed.

Get yourself a manual!

Good luck,
Russ

PS,I only rebuilt my transfercase/ hi/lo box.The 4 speed was replaced with a ford C4 auto.

I am rebuilding mine right now this is my third gearbox that I have rebuilt and every one has had a worn output shaft where the high gear runs. I bought a new one from FWD on Monday for $185 genuine LR part. Have a go it is easy if you have a manual.
