What Next: 109 IIa Rear Differential Shaft Failure

Hi, I have a 109IIA ex fire truck which we use at the farm with a 8M folding spray boom for spraying the paddock. The spiggot where the drive shaft attaches to the rear differential has just broken off.

I'm no expert on fixing up vintage vehicles - clueless in fact. My local garage said if I bring the parts he'll fit them, but where do I start looking? What do you think would be a sensible next step:-

a) scrap the vehicle
b) send the broken diff to be repaired
c) buy a second hand diff

Any advice would be very welcome, best regards

Forget about suggestion A.

2nd hand diffs are pretty easy to come by, just have a look in any wreckers that are near by, other than that send him to get fixed.

Buy a second hand diff.

Note that unless it has been changed it is a Rover differential, 4.7:1. These are either the same or at least interchangeable for almost all Series Landrovers 1949-83 (except very early ones, lwb Series 3 rear and Stage 1 V8 & Isuzu) and are the same front and rear. As a result, second hand ones should be readily available, and I would be surprised if someone on here does not have a spare one (I do, but I am a bit far away from you).

Changing the diff should take no more than a couple of hours even if you have never done it before, and can be done with only spanners, although a concrete floor and a floor jack helps.
