Coil sprung suspension for a S3

Hi everyone does anyone know if there are any coil spung Series 3 in the group. I am wantng to know if some one has already done this conversion. It would be good to talk about they problems incurred. You can get gal chassis in England but the supplier is not shipping overseas at the moment so if anyone has experience in this conversion please let us know. Adapting a series 3 chassis locally would seem a good alternative is there someone that does this conversion in Oz.

Cut down Range Rover chassis would be the way to do it.

Then weld on Bulkhead outriggers from series chassis and put your series body on it. Then you have a V8 powered, coil sprung series "hybrid".

Take a look at "A 4x4 is born". It is a great example of building a hybrid, although theres is 100 inch instead of 88 inch but all the info is there.

For licensing ease you need to start with a coil chassis.
Go the early Rangie,as early as possible so you can avoid emissions/ADRs imposed on new stuff.
You then get a V8 with coils all round,disc brakes and easily complied.
Your vehicle will be regoed as a Rangie as thats what the chassis is but will look like a Series.
Contact Julien at Discovery Automotives(they advertise on here),he has a "Series Rangie" Hybrid he built.

Adapting a series 3 chassis locally would seem a good alternative is there someone that does this conversion in Oz.
There are several other alternatives.

Buy a County or a Defender, which already have coils and you don't need to have them certified by an engineer!

Fit parabolic springs (which is the cheapest alternative). Santana Land Rovers are still made with parabolic instead of coils.

This is how I did it. What I did was learning and not very well executed but it takes some time to do it.

Something additional to consider, is the series axles are a lot narrower that coiler axles and you may find that the spring perches etc wont fit due to the narrow series track

i'm thinking of rangie diffs under the Stage 1, but leaving Leafs.... then i can have 4whel discs............
