While I can see a reason for two presses of the fob to get the non-drivers doors to unlock-
but can someone explain to me why we need THREE to get the rear door to unlock??
and can we get it changed to just two??
please?

I can't say for certain, but you probably have the same problem that I do. My RH rear passenger door requires three presses to unlock, but that is not a design feature. It is just that the servo is very slow. I could replace it but have decided that I can live with it for the time being. Hope that helps.

I have a 2000 D2 with this issue as well, sometimes 2, but most often 3 presses required to unlock it.
so i am wondering, is this due to the lock mechanism being gummed up with rubbish or the actuator getting old and not having sufficient power to work the lock mechanism?
i cleaned out the lock tunnell and mechanism last night with electrical cleaner which also gets rid of the grease, and then re-greased the lock.... there was alot of dirt in there, but it doesnt seem to have made a difference, sometimes it opens with 3 presses, sometimes only takes 2... when i press three times the button on the rear door comes up slightly but not enough to unlock.
my door seems to hinge find and line up with the striker correctly.... any other peoples experiences would be good...

Just went & tried mine....1 press all round, but when I tried it the 1st time then unlocked it, needed to press the button twice to open the tailgate, then tried it several times & guess what...the tailgate unlocked everytime 1st time.:misclock:

Standard is 1 press to unlock all.
The car can be set to 2 stage unlocking via Testbook.
As for 3 stage on certain doors...well, it is a Land Rover ;).

mine only fails the first time you unlock the car say every 10 - 15 mins, its intermittant... i have cleaned the lock a bit and tried putting graphite in it tonight but to no avail... hmm can feel some dis-assembly coming on here

There is a known fault with the tailgate door lock mech on a S2 Disco. The child proof latch drops, stopping the door unlocking. This has no doubt been discussed previously. Cheers, Erich.

Correct and yep, mentioned in the other thread...
1st press = driver's door = single point entry for security in dodgy carparks etc
2nd press = all other doors
Can be reprogrammed to all doors opening on first press.

my car is programmed for single point entry and yes i understand the fault with the spring, but how does the spring fault manifest itself?
a. can the central locking unlock the rear door but it might take more than 1 attempt by the soleniod to unlock the door as the problem with the spring is somehow making it harder for the actuator to unlock the door?
b. the central locking will unlock the door the first attempt but you cant use the outside handle the actually open the door?
c. the central locking under no circumstances will unlock the door as the actuator is unable to do so when the spring is not right, hence the button will remain down?
i have scenario A, so wondering if this is the springs fault or a door lock which needs removing and cleaning. if the spring stops the door from being unlocked permanently then that is not the fault i am experiencing.
i have sprayed the lock with contact cleaner to clean our all the gunge then refilled with grease but still it is intermittantly 2nd or 3rd go..

I am in - joined the 'Club' with an 04 Series 2 - stoked :D
anyway, we have the same problem as the title - but ours is the drivers door! it un-locks but doesnt actually open from teh outside, one has to clamber over from the passenger side (which is OK when my wife has a shorter skirt on! :) )
We think it is a sticky solenoid as similar to the rear door situation tht started this thread.
are there any notes some where on how to get to the mechanism to clean it? doe is need a clean from the outside and a squirt of some lubricant?
any other help?
thanks in Advance
