Going home from Beerburrum yesterday I released I was still in extended mode.....doing 80kph:o
I became aware of this only because I tried the cruise and it wouldn't work. Thinking I'd done some damage during the day I took stock of the controls and realised....

I'd forgotten to switch back from mud ruts to normal mode on the TR:angel:. Also, I think the cause (extended mode) was bottoming out in the final climb which caused the car to go to extended mode (ie higher than off road height).

I flicked the TR back to road mode, she dropped down and all was well, cruise back on and off we went like nothing had happened.

No beep, chimes or messages on the display...very strange.

The good book says it should have exited extended mode once I was over 5kph.

I wonder if you it can be done on purpose ?
Some of us have been trying to work out how to hold a higher than standard ride height at speeds over 55kph.........why? Because on a long run on dirt roads the extra clearance would be handy at speeds of 80 to 100 kph.

Found this :
Australian 4WD Action dedicated to 4WD, 4x4, SUV, Truck, 4 wheel drive and off road community, loaded with tips, tests, reviews, travel, gallery and forum (http://www.4wdaction.com.au/current_issue/120/)

'We catch up with Gordon, a research scientist from Western Australia with one of the best equipped and standout Disco 3’s in Australia. Back in 2005, 4WD Action crowned the LandRover Discovery 3 as the Best 4WD of 2005, and since then we haven’t found a more capable D3 to take on the tough Australian Outback – until we met Gordon. If you want to know more about Gordon’s modifications, and how you can set up your Disco 3 to be an all round tourer and strong competitor in 4WD events, check out Issue 120 of Australian 4WD Action for Gordon’s contact details.'

Apparently Gorden has found a way to run the Air Suspension 40 mm above Standard - I'm looking for a copy of the mag to get the full article

Isn't Gordon a member of AULRO, GGhaggis?

He sure is.

Regarding the raised height, it involves modifying or buying modified arms for the height sensors (at least that's one way of doing it). There's loads of info on this on disco3.co.uk (http://www.disco3.co.uk)

Driver to insurance company:
See, I was driving down the road and tried to take a corner at the posted speed of 80kph. For some reason the car flipped and it's trashed.....I want you to pay up:D

Insurance Co:
Hmmm, you say this is a D3 with air suspension?:)

Driver:
Too right...bloody great bit of kit:D

Insurance Co:
Hmmmm...were you operating the car at the manufacturer's recommended road height?

Driver:
Errr........not quite......

Insurance Co:
Errr...tell ya story walking Bud:mad:

I have no knowledge of the D3 air susp, actually I have no knowledge of anything :D except that the D2 will chime three times and automatically return to road height from off-road height (or extended mode) at 40kph.

Wots da book say for the D3, gotta be something similar eh!

Good point re insurance, anything to escape a pay-out.

Yeah, the D3 should ring a bell too, and normally does, but not in this case.

Gordons adjustment is the shortened height sensor rods, he changes them when needed.
working on a remote system, design problems being ironed out at the moment...............

Been away for a week - on a slowwwwwwww connection - so didn't get to comment on this thread!

I had a very similar experience when I broke the air-compressor mounting bracket on a rock in Harvey. The car jacked itself up to extended height, gave a suspension fault error and stayed there. I drove back to Perth, cleaned the mud off, re-plugged the connectors around the pump, went to bed and everything was reset in the morning. Never happened again .....

I use the shortened rods when on long sand treks or rock-climbing. They're relatively easy to use. Like every man and his dog, I'm also working on a module that would electronically reset the base height, but it's proving to be more difficult than we first thought :(

Still, it _is_ possible, so I'll get it eventually ............

Cheers,

Gordon

As I've commented before in many forums, i would like high speed off road settings, the Matzker package is just too expensive @ Euro1600 (AUD $2700).

Hi there! Newbie here, with a RRS that also needs this mod when it comes out.

A few questions sprung to mind reading this thread:

The Matzker kit sounds expensive but how does it compare to a lift on a coiler? Is it difficult to install?

Can the dealers, when re-calibrating the suspensio, not enter higher base values for each mode - so normal height is higher than before?

Will the CV joints take the abuse - and has anyone performed a 'diff-drop' to counter the extreme angles?

Cheers!

Here is some more info that may be of use: (from rangerovers.net, RRS section)

Yeah, but my understanding is that it's not something you can get done at dealerships, or a friendly LR indy shop, even if equipped with the latest T4/IDS software. Adam (Off roving) went through a buddy of his at LRU (Land Rover University), using a corporate version of the T4 Testbook - not locked down like the dealer/repair shop version - and with that software he was able to digitally recalibrate the system to provide +1"front and +1.5"rear lift in all suspensions modes. But unless you also happen to have a buddy working at LRU, you'll be SOL. The "regular" T4 software provided to dealers and indy service dept.s doesn't allow such changes to be implemented.

The thread is here: RangeRovers.net • View topic - 2" Lift Kit: Raising the air suspension permenently (http://rangerovers.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=19092)

So you can't use something like this?

Extended Profile Selector (http://rangerovers.net/rrupgrades/extended.html)

Nah, something to do with how the CAN-BUS system on the RRS /D3 works.

Leo,

The dealers can recalibrate the system, but they won't set it to anything outside of the std operating parameters - warranty/liability and all that. At this stage the shortened rods still seems the best option. The extended profile circuit Ron linked to relies on the common cable return from the sensors, but the D3/RRS circuits are independent, so a lot more fiddling is required.

There was talk of adding a module to the Faultmate diagnostic scanners (from BlackBox) that would provide the re-calibration facility, but I don't know if this is present yet in their latest software patch.

Cheers,

Gordon

All you can do at the mo with faultmate is make the corners go up and down.

I think it will be some time before blackbox get a recalibration facility into the software. They don't seem to be making the D3/RRS a priority, maybe due to the complexities of the CANBUS or maybe they just haven't sold enough SM129/130 modules to warrant the expense.
