Have you been using a RAVE disc?

RAVE uses an older version (maybe version 4) so if you have RAVE open you can't open Adobe 9 or anything that needs a newer version than RAVE has.

Sometimes even after I've closed RAVE I have problems so I open RAVE and close it using File/Close as opposed to the red X. Then all is well again.

You don't have the browser plug in for adobe 9 by the sounds of it. I'm still running v8 so haven't tried to upgrade.
