Hi,

I have just purchased some 235/85/16 tyres, one thing i totally forgot about (having previously owned a Defender) is the rear tyre mount clearance from the rear bumper, basically i can not fit the spare on...

Does anyone have a simple workaround for this, where i can still mount the tyre on the rear, leaving the tyre in the cargo area is not really an option.

Turn the wheel mount upside down on the rear door.

I was never known as a lateral thinker...

Thanks for the advice.

I was imagining welders, grinders and a day in the shed....

I'm assuming you have a Disco.

You can also try (Not sure if its a D1 or a D2) undoing the bolts on the bar & dropping the rear bumper, i did this on mine & worked just.

Cheers

You can also buy adaptor plates that bolt onto the carrier are set the wheel higher. Benefits are that you dont have to fiddle with the trim around the door to get at the bolts to invert the carrier, disbenefits include the tyre being higher and perhaps putting a bit more load on the door. Had mine like this for 3 years and no problems.

My 235/85 16 MT fitted on the rear carrier without even changing anything, But now I have heaps of room because Its body lifted 2 1/2

I just did as "p38arover" said and flipped the wheel carrier upside down, took about 25 mins....

Only the top and bottom bolts retro fitted, the middle hole is way out.

Thanks for the advice.

It would pay to drill that middle hole out when you get time, the 235/85 is considerably heavier than standard.
I didnt need to flip mine, made the rear bar to suit the bigger spare. When I finally got the 235/85s the spare JUST touches the bar:cool::cool::cool::cool:
