Re-posted from D3 / RR UK-lpg link.
I was speaking to Range Rover Automotive today; they are converting the first D3 V8 at the moment, it will then have to go to Sydney for certification. It will retain original fuel tank, so either a external wheel carrier has to be used, or carry some cans of tyre puncture repair . Twin 35ltr tanks mounted underneath. Cost is to be around $6000 + tyre carrier !!
They expect to have it for demo etc in about 5-6 weeks.

If you can afford to outlay $64000 plus for new D3 you can surely afford the fuel costs
Most D3 would be lease deals on salary package so your on 3 year changeover your never going to see your LPG savings as capital repayent on $6000 from fuel cost savings wont happen on average milage for at least 3 to 5 years
And if your splashing $6000 on LPG you might as well go all the way go and get a diesel V8
Sounds more like your $3000 plus Govt $3000 rebate scheme makes a tidy profit for them

Quite agree.....well overpriced. $6000 dollars of petrol is a long way. Must be close to 24000-28000kms of travel (at today's Petrol costs).
Do you get $3000 dollars from the government in rebate now?

Not that you can actually get a V8 Diesel Disco 3 (www.landrover.com.au Discovery Engines (http://www.landrover.com.au/au/en/Vehicles/Discovery/Specifications/Discovery_engines.htm)) )
Not that the LPG Rebate scheme gives you $3,000. (Actually $2,000 AusIndustry.Gov.au - LPG Vehicle Scheme (http://www.ausindustry.gov.au/content/azindex.cfm?Keyword=lpg%20vehicle%20scheme) )

That $6k is probably the "early adopters" price so it should come down in a few years time as more people take up the option.
Or LR could just bloody well install the TDV8 in the D3 and save us all some trouble.

Bit of confusion over the $2000 / $3000 rebate .
It comes about because the Federal govt gives a $2000 rebate, and the WA govt gives a $1000 rebate to its people .
So, $3000 in WA and $2000 in the rest of the country .
Agree $6000 is way overpriced .
Still, its probably quite reasonable from a company that asks $800 dollars for a set of genuine RR floor mats .
For general info-
Regarding the aerosol cans of tyre repair, there no substitute for a spare .
When I tow my boat I actually carry a couple of cans, but thats in addition to the spare on the trailer .There only there as a last resort . They're only good for small punctures, and according to my local tyre dealer, the gunk they squirt into the tyre prevents the tyre people from repairing the tyre, so its throw the tyre away and buy a new tyre .
Cheers John

Certainly not for a non-WA registered vehicle anyway, as you'd still only get a$2k rebate plus a big fuel bill. ;)

Dual fuel but no rear wheel carrier:confused: Either he's found another spot for the tank or he's no carrying a spare.

Some friendly advice, DON'T do it! I have had a few cars with LPG and the only one that was any good was a Falcon sedan. My last car on LPG was a 100 Series 'Cruiser. I had nothing but trouble with the tuning and fuel economy was terrible. Power loss for off road and towing was unacceptable, and the price of LPG outside of the metro area is rediculous. A major reason that I traded it in on the D3 TDV6, the best vevicle conversion I have done.

100 series were terrible on the juice on LPG. My 2 V8 discos are not...they achieve less per klm costs than a TD5 or TDV6. This issue has been thrashed out before. Depending on miles and servos the converter might need a clean every 1.5-2.5 years (at $300 max) to keep it running like new. Nothing is as smooth as a rover V8 on LPG...yeahhh baby!:)

And as for power - I have one open loop with mixer and one closed loop with mixer (ie both mixer not LPG injection) and the power is very very good (only losing a little ground to petrol over about 4000 rpm) - and low down torque is better on LPG than petrol. They both tow the boat very well on LPG - 2 tonn dual axle (Seafarer Vagabond - they are not a small boat).
Cheers
