Is this in comparison to the front diff?
If it is, it will be the front will be out of alignment due to P/h rod and lift.

Ahh but is it the diff thats sticking out further or could the body be ever-so-slightly skew on the chassis?
In certain lights, after the right number of beers I swear that the left rim is closer to the line of the wheelarch that the right.
One day I'll get to the bottom of it

Check you haven't bent one of the lower control arms or the mount on the chassis for them. Does the vehicle track straight or does it crab walk up the road?

I had this on my old defender, it was a bent a frame, found with a straight edge.

Bingo, the higher you go the more the PH rod will pull the whole diff to the left, you need an adjustable PH rod ;).

Commonly on D1's the rear axle is slightly left for some reason....
I've seen it on lots of them..
More pronounced once you fit larger tyres. As this brings the tyre out towards the edge and makes it more noticeable.
