Went for a bit of a fly today with 171 squadron in a Blackhawk, what was to be a quick inspection of the Holsworthy Training Area in relation to bushfire risk turned into a trip to remember.

After the customary briefing we were off around the range, down the western side back up through the middle, down the eastern side, turn around and back.

On the way back the loadmaster asked if we were short on time ? With no being the answer he wrote CBD on his load sheet and we were off.

Heading off from Holsworthy across to Parramatta and then down the harbour

Theres the odd nice house around Hunters Hill

A perfect day to fly around what has to be the best harbour in the world

And safe back on the ground again.

The trip was done with doors off and at about 200 ft.

A lot of people have tod me - if you're going to crash in a helicopter then a Blackhawk is the one to be in.

I don't think I want to put it to the test.

Thomas Walker's Rivendell, also known as the Thomas Walker Convalescent Home. It was built from 100,000 pounds from his estate, with most of the other 50,000 pounds needed donated by his daughter Eadith and her foster sister. The family lived in the Dame Eadith Walker home 'Yaralla'.
Now its used as a DOCS training establishment for delinquents (they call it the Adolescent Unit) I think.

Rivendell was originally only accessible by water, hence the wharf house. The timber wharf was demolished in the 60's.

It's at Rhodes on the Parra River

No doubt would be a nice place to work if it wasn't for the management and clientele.

Was at a meeting today where we decided it should be a twice a year inspection (although I doubt the side trip will be a regular :(:()

Photos were with a Pentax K10D taken at 10mp, I then did a quick reduction to 800x600 and default sharpen in Irfanview.

You need to catch up.
My youngest car is quite modern. It's a mid '90s model.

That's my old Squadron. I was the SSM 2011-12. I miss the Black Hawk. I was down visiting the Squadron last week doing some testing. In 1998 I flew under the bridge three times in a Black hawk.
