G'day Shane
did exactly that to my 90 RR with ARB non-winch bar. Just got a 6mm steel plate the width of the bar between the uprights and welded a return at the top (see pic) fitted Warn 8000 Lb winch and roller fairlead. Has worker well for 6 years with no distortion of the bar. Probably a bit over overkill in terms of strength and weight. I can send measurements if you need
Cheers

thanks nick for the reply the measurement would be great at least i could get the steel plate organised without havin to pull the bar off yet
but with this option are you bolting the winch straight on to the front bar (with plate) verticly yeah !
thanks mate

pulling the bar off is probably no big deal - just get a couple of strong young guys to take the weight ( support might be good too)
Nick, I think a few of us would like your plate dimensions if you could post them here, thanks, Laurie

i spotted this but is is for a jeep bar
this would be ok but i would rather some more support in the front section
looking at this you would boltt the winch horizontal as per a normal winch bar
but will look at anything though
i got the pic from here

:D
The low mount winches mount with the bolts going through the bottom of the winch plate. Only the fairlead or hawse goes onto the front.

Hi Shane
The problem with the non-winch bar is that it is not tall enough to fit a winch so the 6mm plate I made was 790mm wide, 185mm high (tall enough for an 8000lb Warn in my case) and the return was 65mm. The width brings it very close to the bullbar uprights so you can weld these into the new structure (best to check the measurements of your bar in case it is a bit different to mine). I cut out the top plate of the bar carefully so that the plate was flush with the original bend the bar makes from the verticle front face to horizontal top section but was flat against the inside of the bar. I then welded the plate to the inside of the bar. The winch mounts to the inside of the new vertical plate and also mounts the roller on the outside. You just need to determine the space you need for the cable and cut the appropriate hole through both the now welded in plate and the front of the bull bar. I used the 65mm return welded to the top of the plate for extra strength and to mount the driving lights. If you are going to mount another type/make of winch just increse the hight of the plate as required The bar is easy to remove on your own as it is not that heavy. If you want I can take a couple of closer pics tomorrow and post them up
Cheers
Nick

He wasnt a ******, he's telling it straight... It wont fit a winch!!!!
What your talking is "Can I modify my Std bar to take a winch?" In which case, YES! anythings possible.
However, whilst we can modify, ARB has a tried and rated/design which they back and therefore have a liability for...
You however, can modify what you want as you see fit, its on your head to make sure its safe.
Good luck with the modifications, and welcome to the forum.

Im in Cranny and I would be happy to help in return to you helping me fit a cradle to mine.
Ive got the workshop and the tools nessesary and the only cost will be any hardware and steel you need to use.
PM me if you want to go ahead with it, the only main problem is that to do things in the workshop I really need to do it during the week in the afternoon.

When I bought the ARB Bar for the disco the guy told me that the only difference is the plate, and it could always be added later. Of course being a newbie I may have misunderstood.
