PERTH to ALICE SPRINGS - 2010An invite to all Series One Landrover owners. The time has come, the moment’s right, this reminder I send again. We’re setting a date, to give you a goal, it’s May 2010.

We’re planning a Trip, to strengthen the bond, and help our fellowship grow.A run from Perth, to Alice Springs, an adventure you’ll love, I know. This challenge we make, is to help to fullfill, and show that your dream can come true.Just finish your project, be ready to start, the rest is up to you. There’s plenty of knowledge, lots of advice, just ask, is what you must do.We’ve done this ourselves, know how you feel, this makes for mates that are true.

Allow 6 to 8 weeks including return, you may leave at any time if you have time restraints, or wish to go further. Note: a lot of travel is on sealed roads. You must carry extra fuel, your own water and food for the journey. We will use Bushcamps and Caravan Parks (camping).

Please reply if you are interested, or would like to be.Norm Wasley. (08) 9258 3341

My friend Norm had sent me this invite so have taken the liberty of posting on ALRO.Please contact Norm to registed interest, details of travel schedule and progress on arrangements.CheersDunno

Thanks Ellard,
I replied on the general but I'll repeat here too.

I'm half keen - not sure if I can get the time off yet - but would also be interested in an east coast to Alice Springs journey to hook up with the Perth guys.

Anyone else interested???

Hi there

I spoke with Doug just a while ago - I also expressed a general interest in the trip as well.

As we reside in SA we would be considering to meet them on the Gun Barrel Highway.

Its still along way of yet - but if your planning on meeting up with them your welcome to do a stop over in the Flinders Rangers (we are 40km out of Pt Augusta and theres plenty of room) - I have also forwarded this same email to a few interested parties in SA for there consideration.

The biggest problem for most is getting that sort of time of work.

I have his email address and he is going to send me updates for those whom are interested.....

Wayne,

This is a great idea and one that would get me to pull my finger out and get Shorty up and going. As you said - the main issue is getting the time off work.

A group coming from the east coast would also be a good thing.

Plotted out a few routes. I'm thinkin will take best part of a month ...one way! Given a few stop offs and inevitable malfunctions ;).

Distances approx.

I've only given the "google" routes any suggestions on route?

It would certainly be a lot of fun. Lot of work needed between now and then though.

"bump"

Just requested my leave for May 2010. I'm still not a definite but would love to take Olute on an adventure. (Wal's thread on his Sydney trip has got me motivated again:D)

thanks for the bump, i doubt i will have a series 1, although there is one at the end of the street (wonder if he will miss it) but i will be watching this thread with interest as i would be keen to check out all these S1's when you get to the centre, i could be a support vehicle for the eastern states

I'm sure support vehicles would be welcome weeds! (back of the convoy though;):p))

I'll try and make contact with Norm (from the original post) to see how they are progressing.

As mentioned earlier an "all points of the compass" meeting at Alice would be fun.
I reckon 10 days from Melbourne (average 250km per day= 4 hours driving) plus breakdowns and dramas. Maybe Two weeks to get there? Plus leasure days and diversions?

Hmmmm Big trip! I'll do some more thinking;)

Hi there all

Its great to hear this trip being discussed - I am making no definate plans as of yet but still very much interested.

The invitation is out there for those whom want a stop over in the Flinders Rangers, theres plenty of room for camping, few chops on the BBQ, followed by a few cold ales and if needed vehicle repairs.

All the best

I had earmarked this, but not responded. There are quite a few here in SEQ who could make the trip accross to meet up in Alice. I will definately have my finger out to have a working series 1 and a support vehicle.

I'd love to make the trip from Darwin. It shouldn't be a hassle.

There's a bloke up the road here that did Adelaide - Perth on a regular basis in an 80" to visit rellies. Kids & camping gear in the back & off they'd go.:D

This was back in the 50/60s when the WW2 built road was as rough as a dog's guts. He's still got it & he bought a S1 hardtop with the hinged door from me a few years ago.

Apx 2,800 km each way.

I don't have a S1, but I do know a bit about them, and could be interested in tagging along in support, probably in the S2a if there is anyone thinking of coming from this general direction and feels they need support.

I note that the Land Rover Club of the ACT are sponsering a trip around corner country from 31 May 2010 for heritage Land Rovers. See:

OUTBACK LAND ROVER HERITAGE DRIVE 2010 (http://www.olrhd2010.com/)

Now there is a trip for you, do the Corner Country, then nip across the Simpson, over to Alice and catch up with guys from Perth and then off home to the various loctions!!

Who's in?

6-8 weeks!!?? How could it possibly take that long?

But still! hehehe man that's a long time. You could fly to Tibet, trek to the basecamp of Mount Everest, aclimatise, climb the north ridge seige style, nice and slow, reach the summit, return to base camp, trek out from the mountain ranges and be back on a plane to to perth in 6-8 weeks :D

I'm sure a lot of the people who would otherwise be keen for this trip won't be able to make it because of work.

Looks like fun toad - I sent them an email and they will be advising more soon.
Aiming for about 50 series vehicles:o Now that'd be an impressive sight!
(Yeah I know - I didn't make it to Cooma :()

Gone a bit cold Wayne. Worked out I probably need 4 to 6 weeks and I won't get that much leave. :(

I will try for the Heritage run though.

interested also if there is an all points of the compass run to meet in Alice. Like a few others I might struggle to get enough time to go from Vic to WA and back via Alice.

Could I come in my 53 Willys jeep if I drove at the back and stuck to the shadows?
