Shame he didn't have a welding rod and some sunnies - he coulda dun it Roothy style!

(From what I know of JD, he would be carrying jumper leads and has dual batts - although not for the reason above!)

Thanks to all for the thoughts, and to Incisor for posting the message for me.

Also thanks to the NRMA for prompt help.

The gear lever came off while parking in the main street of Mudgee in the middle of a working day!

Failure was, by the appearance of the break, a fatigue failure right at the top of the ball.

NRMA took me and the lever to a welder, welded on the spot for $15, and then NRMA picked me up and took me back to the car.

Removing the lever took just the time the NRMA took to arrive, about five minutes to replace it then another five to put the tools away. Total time lost about two hours including a pie for lunch.

I am now in Wentworthville for a school reunion over the weekend in Parramatta.

I broke one in my old rangie, driving home from Fraser Island. Pulled the ball out, selected 4th with a large screwdriver. Drove through the late night and early morning and was fortunate that I didn't have any uphill starts - there were not as many vehicles or lights around then.

Got back home again Monday without any further problems, thanks again to all for your concern.

Although the welding looks to be good, I would like to source a spare gearlever, so if anyone has one surplus I would like to talk to you.

I stopped off at Land Vehicle Spares on the way. they were unable to locate one in half an hour or so, but may do so, and will let me know. From them I learnt that there are at least three different gear levers for the LT95, and they are not interchangeable without at least some modification. (look at the tip - ball, one side flat, two sides flat - I need the last).

I have not run across this problem before on the later gearbox - but every Series I have ever owned has either had a welded gear lever or it has broken while I owned it!
