G'Day Dave, Dave here ; ))
Thanks for your posts (life story). It's nice to see someone who has mastered the art of messing with the system! Just a quick question: would you be able to check the specs for Truck, Surveillance, Lightweight, Winch, MC2 (RFSV, pictured(points at avatar^) for me ? I have in my memory that they were supplied to us with 4.11 diffs, rather than the 3.86(?) of the GS. I assume that the '98 on SRVs would be the same, though not the ADGs buggies.
Thanks in advance, Dave.

As far as I know the diffs are of the same ratio as the rest

The GS has 3.54:1 diffs, as would your disco (if stock). Like Phoenix, AFAIK all 4x4 models had the same ratios.

Diff ratios normal 3.54 but the RFSV had a different ratio in the transfer. 1.112 to 1 instead of 0.996..........I have the part numbers for these gears (hi ratio gear and center diff gear) if you are after them...................Bearman

what they said...
high range is lower, low is the same
diff ratio is 3.54:1
its either the SRV or the RFSV that gets the 6 gear front diff.
some other added goodies over a GS like sway bars a winch, digital trip meter, more spares, dual batteries, dual tanks... taller suspension
there are mission kits for them that change the configuration but most of that is bolt on stuff but a couple include split rims....

Thanks Fellas, that's interesting.
Bearman, I would love to require the parts, as it would mean that I had had the $60K required to purchase the ex-SASR Support group Fund Raiser RFSV (maco, PC tarps-no fading! ~ 30K kms on the clock:(.... sorry , am tearring up now :...(.
But I digress..
So, they were fitted with an 'under-drive'? Makes sense considering the loads we carried for extended patrols (a 200lt drum fits between the rear seat and 'Rollbar', but shh, don't tell) and, IIRC, we had no anti-roll bars to extend articulation. With the pedal stop wound to the floor V-Max was 115 down-hill!
Beautiful off-road, wallowy on.
Cheers, Dave.:BigThumb:

Yeah, would be great to get hold of one. I have a set of the RFSV t/case gears to fit the tapered roller intermediate shaft but havent got around to using them yet. Next time I do a big trip up north I am going to fit them and see what difference it makes fully loaded. The 996 ratio is a little high fully loaded including trailer and boat on top even with the turbo. Anyway we can always dream. Regards...Brian

Hi Brian, I'm running those ratios at present and wil swap out to .996:1 shortly. I find them excellent with the camper trailer hooked up and fully loaded when hills are involved, but the revs are still too high at 100km/h on the flat cruising for my liking. Perfect at 80, but a pain if you want to overtake at 110, as it is almost on the governor:eek:(125 is TOPS)
I'm running 33" tyres,(255/85/16) BFG mudders.
I don't have a boat on my roof, (If I had one it'd probably be on the trailer anyway because I am too short to reach that high:p), so this will probably be to your advantage to try them.

What are the army engines governed at Dave??? On 7.50's, with 1.112 gears, that speed would only be right if they were governed at 3200 rpm.

that rings a bell but I'll eye up the emei's later tonight.

3200 is where it makes maximum power it shouldnt go faster as its falling off the torque curve rapidly at those RPMS....
I dont have the spec sheet for the engine in the EMEI that I have (that IVe found)

No worries. My (civvie 4BD1(T)) will do 100 km/h in 3rd (LT85). That means it hits at least 3400 (depending on speedo accuracy). Now it has a turbo it pulls hard all the way to the governor.
I'm sure I remember someone saying theirs is governed at 3600.

the T is a different beast with a different torque plate and internal govener adjustment.

Mine is an NA engine with a turbo bolted on.
