Yea, be a little bit yet, tray has priority, went and bought steel this arvo and forgot some bits.....the bits I need to start making:(
So tomorrow morn will go get them and hopefully get the bed together tomorrow, just walking in circles now, working out where to moung, air compressors, valvewear and control's, line routing, duel tank valve, keeping in mind I still need to make water tanks.........
Once I have the bits, seals gaskets and handbrake, then slip the box in, then seals gaskets and drop the motor in, then turbo fitment time
Finished the GU the other day, gotta wire an oven this week, then start on the full rewire for Drew's car, for the Cliffhanger, need to get a bit fitter to be his Navvy to! and they want me for long days and weekend work for all of June, hope I don't catch your germs:p
i'll stay away:D. see ya in july:p

This is a great build up. I plan on doing the same thing, although starting with a HDJ79R, putting a 100 Series rear axle under it and then airbagging the thing all round.

79 would be good, I does like them:angel:
Track width would be something to think off, as Tojo varied track with wagons/utility, Better of just using whats there and 4 link with bags...........the idea may or may (notice lack of not!) of crossed my mind alot of times:D

Speaking of track widths, have you heard of any ways of getting around the track width issue on the new utes and wagons?
I was checking out a 79GXL wagon which obviously had spacers and it looked great. Suppose no more illegal than HIDs, Big arse lifts, tyres etc.

A mate of mine...lives next door actually, has a new trayback, travelled about 15k now, has 315's, lift, diff locks, to much money:D, and finds no issues whatsoever, uses around 12L/100 aswell, he couldn't be happier

Well done on the mutt:) I do the same, cant stand the thought of someones dog getting run over:(
That will be strong enough:) How high are you going to mount it with 35's and longer travel etc.
Maybe put small wells over the tyres so you can keep the C of G lower.:)
Would help with high speed cornering and side slopes a lot!

When the bags are setup, that will dictate tray height, thought about folding up some pretty tubs, but will make it a real pain to set up, so not sure yet

What part no are the bags and pistons? May be the photoes, but the pistons you have appear slightly longer than mine. They may not compress up as far, but will make up for it on the down stroke.:) The longer piston should make them a little more progressive as well.

1t14c-5 bags, pistons is in, so can't help on the numbers sorry
"apparently" with longer bags it'll loose stability, how much truth to it, who knows, Ben has the 1t14c-7 bags I believe, see his thoughts when his done, these will extend past the longer shocks I have, so that's more than enough for me
Plates for the front should be cut tomorrow, hopefully fit the front bags tomorrow night, you never said if you wanted a set for yourself, seeing as they are getting done, I've got three sets anyhow

Going to be very interesting how yours, Bens and mine turn out in the long run. I have the longer bags and have found when I have big weights on I have to lower it to keep things nice and stable at high speed. Still better than coils though.
Yea I do want a set for the front. Doesn't matter if its to late. I need to take some measurements ideally anyway.

Ta,
Can you give me an idea of the fully open and clossed lengths + OD?
Full, not useable, but full extension is 515mm, from bottom of piston to top of top plate, compressed is 200mmish, hard to tell as not compressing with weight
top plate is 160mm OD, piston is 130mm OD but requires 170mm bottom plate, so the bag can roll out over the piston on full compression, bag is approx same OD as piston

Yeah exactly... I already have some spare coils, but air bags would be easier to swap (assuming they have the same bolt pattern). Plus, they can be squashed up to take up almost no space.
I am concerned that on hard landings (i.e. after unexpected bumps) I may damage the top of the bag...

They're fairly tough, I haven't managed to bust one here yet. I carry big weights on some very rough terrain. I think the only way of damaging a bag would be a very sharp object forced into the side.

That should be OK.:) I have been at mine this arvo, Ripped the whole lot out and starter again.
The compressor wont be good under the wing as will make intercooling difficult. So I have gone for the outrigger under the cab for some protection. I have moved the valve block inside behind the driver seat. Problem I have here is, sticks and other crap that seems to flick up and rip things off:mad:
I'm getting there.:) Spoke to the AIR boys down your way today, They knew you:) I needed 4 Tee's for manual backup inflation.
We talked about automating my set up, can be done but have suggested I bag the front first and see how it goes:)
Our concern is more things to get torn off:(
I was quite surprised they were OK about sourcing the bags out side:) How ever if we come up with the part numbers they likely can get them cheaper.

Yea said they can source the bags, you know where they get them from? same place, but cheaper, haha, they actually sell airbag mans kits and recommend them:D
Front airbags are dunlop bags, with airbag man imprinted on them, and their own part number
I'm hoping with enough saddleing and clampin the hoses shouldn't be an issue, the only concern will be the height sensors

Rough ride height, works well, considering my RR ride height and where the bags sit on the pistons
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/06/1870.jpg
Full compression, now apparently with weight the bags will roll over the secong half of the piston and lay on the plate underneath, hence it being a larger diameter
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/06/1871.jpg
Bags sit canted, it doesn't look right, suppose to fine so long as they are parallel at compression, which they are, so hopefully when I stick the motor and box in they'll sit neater and not crush, but roll when compressed

I may have to go automated on my front if this happens. I'll leave the rear manual so less things to get knocked off under there.

you could run it up inside the vertical tube of your headboard with an elbow through the tube facing towards the cab and mount a cheap ryco inline fuel filter on the end. protected and filtered... run the breather lines for the diffs etc beside it for convenience too :)
They come with there own remote filter, the fuel filters would restrict flow severely

They fit beautifully, just gott make mounts to match on the front housing, no biggy, shocks were from Philco on here, not sure how they'll dampen with the air springs, time will tell, they are longer shocks and by no more than pure ass, they stroke perfectly:)

Easy one, can't go exactly 90* as there is 13 partitions/vane thingys, just went the one past 90 and drilled a 2.5mm hole and refitted the dowl pin, now the tubine housing is the right way, with pressure pipe uptop and drain on the bottom, refitted the actuator and readjusted it, hardest part was getting the goop of the threaded road and locking nut:D

You'll have to read the whole thread!, bags and rear kit were sourced from airbag man, fronts I have had plates profile cut to fit the bags as there is no kit available, I got 3 sets done, 1 in mine, now Tony here has another and one set left, yours for cost plus postage, around $120, I only bought 2 sets of bolts and counter sunk capheads, so you'll have to source your own, anyhow, check through the thread, all the details should be there:)

Rear bags I used the kit from airbag man, hindsight says I should of just bought from truck springs and blown out my own adaptors, but this was easy, its the fronts I made plates up for, I can help with dimensions if you like
And the VNT was just a matter of Vern accumulated 3 of them, so its a suck and see test, no research and I'm still thinking about the intercooler, but I'm tipping I'll source a Puma bonnet and go water to air:)

Following this thread with interest. A fine job you are doing. Having done all this work I am interested on your opinion. If 4" longer doors were not too hard to make, would that make for an easier conversion to what you have done considering you still have to extend the roof as well as the floor. I am just wondering how hard it would be to add length to the doors frame and then re-skin the outside. I don't know if laminated glass for doors complies with ADR's but that would be easy to have cut. I would love to stretch my single cab 130 but I don't like the idea of sitting back behind the door pillar. Would look like there is no-one driving the vehicle and I imagine it would have some impact on visibility.

It'd be more difficult, but a better result, can get the glass cut easily, that is zone toughened, Might look into doing the same one day in the distant future....see how much this pillar annoys me:confused:

Very cool.
For engineering will you need an interlock to prevent the front from raising first and the rear from lowering first?
I recall when we had an air suspension Subaru the suspension movement was always such that the front would be lower than the rear to prevent the headlights from dazzling oncoming drivers.

Its very much the latest in air controller, this is just in manual, it has an inhibit from the handbrake, which only allows the appropriate height functions, its all DOT approved

I bought the cab off another LROCV member.
It's actually a factory extra cab from a '96 130 tray.

Picked up the 120 in Adelaide (Ebay) and the tray in Deer Park, so there's bits coming from all over the place.

Rear bags I used the kit from airbag man, hindsight says I should of just bought from truck springs and blown out my own adaptors, but this was easy, its the fronts I made plates up for.........
I emailed Airbag Man for info on kits for Countys, Defenders etc. He replied saying they have a defender in the workshop right now for R & D on bag kits for the front (only rears available at the moment)

Is the boost regulator just one of those bleed valve style thingies that allows you to fool the actuator into seeing eg 15psi when actual boost is 20?

Yep, that's it, shouldn't be to hard with a dyno run to see optimal change over, just run vanes shut, then vanes open, see where the power ramp overlaps/EGT's overlap and set boost change over level accordingly
Then once that's achieved but an actuator that operates at the right pressure.....but in all honesty, once set, it'll stay as is:D
Oh, its a pressure can that I had laying around from turboing a 302 windsor, so pretty sure its 6psi, then leak off up from there

Why not fit a controller like this? Greddy JDM Profec B Spec 2 II Boost Contoller Black NEW - eBay (item 220701567611 end time Dec-24-10 15:38:03 PST) (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Greddy-JDM-Profec-B-Spec-2-II-Boost-Contoller-Black-NEW-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3362d6aa7bQQitemZ22070 1567611QQptZRaceQ5fCarQ5fParts)
That and a properly set up aneroid, hell, turn it up to 60psi when theres a few tonne on the back and keep it around 15 for longevity when there isn't:angel:

Because with a mechanical injector pump oiler, you can't alter the fuelling to suit the boost, with an aftermarket ECU on a petrol you can tune your boost maps to accomodate when you up the boost, so you'd either pump char and huge EGT's when at 15psi or likely not even make sixty

Do you have an aneroid on your pump?

Thats what we need^^^^. I have stuffed around with my NA pump and now can get enough fuel but is either over fuel wile boost ramps up or lean out at high RPM loads if fueled back under low boost. Its a compromise... Have to watch the EGT's.
We need a Kiki pump with the aneroid from a latter NPR truck. Bloody hard to buy out right as most want an exchange.:(
I think Matt is on the right track controlling the VNT with a pressure actuator. More fuel = more boost once on song, you get the idea. And keep it simple so reliable wile away from civilisation.

Go on Matt change the grill and surrounds to the grey puma ones...then all you will need is a defender sticker with a flash underneath it to confuse the hell out of people. :D
