I'm assuming that the Defender rear seat is a straight swap to replace a County rear seat ??? and that it's a bit more comfortable :)
Next question, does anybody have a spare for sale ?? I put an ad in markets but only had 3 views !! Condition not too important

You should post a link to the ad in Marketplace Alerts-
Marketplace Alerts - Australian Land Rover Owners (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/marketplace-alerts/)
Ads don't register as posts, so those that use the site via New Posts, or Quick Links > Today's Posts don't get to see them.
Can't help with the rest.

I agree, the Defender rear seats are pretty ordinary for anyone older than 10. Great for kids though as they see way more than in almost anything else.

The Def rear seat (actually MY87 One Ten onwards) is a 33/66 splitfold and sits closer to the front seats so leg room is reduced but of course load space in the rear is up slightly. I found the locking anchorage for the back rest very flimsy and while it will go into an earlier One Ten some small brackets/fixings/holes may be needed.

I have never actually measured them, but my impression is that the later seat is in the same place, but appears to be closer to the front seats because the seat is deeper.

Also, don't the rear seat passengers sit higher up in a Defender? In a County they can see out the door window... in Defenders it's more like looking out the alpine window?

Thanks for all your comments, I just assumed that the defender rear seat would be a better and more comfortable option. Maybe I'll have a look at one in situ before changing over.

Wouldn't that depend on how tall you are? I end up between, looking at the roof, too tall for the door window but not tall enough for the alpine window.

another option is to use front set out of a disco they have the frame to raise the seat up the only problem may be the width to put three in.
The other option would be to put only two in and a storage box in the middle if you only require to seat for kids.

I reckon the county seat is better positioned. I'm pretty sure the seat is moved forward and up in the defender. An adult is unconfortable in it (well I was anyway).

I saw a 110 County years ago with two front seats in the back with the centre console and it had Recaro seats in the front with another centre console. That would be more comfortable than the slab they normally have.

Can you use the same seat-belt mounts?
Another words - is it alright to use a lap type seatbelt in the middle if you are using 3 x front seats in the back?
Cheers
