80 inch BRAKES

What is the best thing to do to the brakes on my 80 inch landy as one has leaked ??
do i try to find brake rubber kits if still avalable or just stainless resleave the lot???
and also put new brake line too.

If there is any corrosion at all in the cylinders, then it is best to re-sleeve them, especially if you want to keep it original. Do a complete system overhaul while you are at it, i.e. check the drums for wear and change the pipes if they are rusty. New brake parts, except for the BSF wheel cylinders and 80" master cylinder are freely available.

Do as Charlie suggests, if you have the original cast iron cylinders and the threads are O.K. get them sleeved, the job is done in stainless and will outlast the rest of the vehicle provided no grit gets in.

The rubbers are exactly the same as the rubbers used on the 88" right through and including series 3.

I agree.. The alloy ones are garbage, some times only last 12 mths here:( I have now got a lathe for this reason as have so many old trucks, rovers etc.

I have 4 80inch landys so hope fully there sould be at least one of each wheel cylinders and master cylinders good to resleave ,it sounds like its the go and iii do the brake lines and restore-paint fix go over the rest of the brakes so they end up like new.(at least it will stop)
then i can do the rest of the landrover.

I had mine relined in SS in 1982 and use the vehicle most days on the farm. I have only had to fit new rubbers once in all this time. The bores were perfect ,so it pays for its self in the long run. Do the SS reline now and never look back mate!:)

Yes, I agree with you Mildred I have been re-sleeving since 1980; however; I have had to pay someone else to do it. It would be nice to be able to do it myself.
