Last Saturday this month I am swapping my L/R 2.6 6cyl for a 3.3l/202 6cyl after many months of procrastinating! :)

In any case, the existing L/R 2.6l 6cyl is in very good condition with a near new carby, near new dizzy and coil, transistor assisted ignition and will be up for grabs, price to be advised, however I am open to offers.
It starts everytime and I have kept the oil change and tune right up.
Oh, it also has a recon head with a new set of valves.
I have an engine crane to load it into a trailer.
I live in East Doncaster Vic.
PM me if you're interested.
The main reason I am swapping it is that I do a lot of long distance cruising and just found the 2.6l wanting for highway cruising. I do very little offroad with my SIII so don't need a lot of torque and want to sit on 100km/h even with a head wind!!:)

Sorry to say it but the holden engine is not going to help your cruising - a bad engine choice. The rev characteristics are all wrong for the landie gearing - landie engines have a flatter torque curve than holden engines so when cruising the holden engine will have to rev higher than its 'sweet' spot - basically it will be reving at a level where torque is tailing off.

You might want to have a rethink -even a good 2.25 petrol landie engine works better than a good holden engine with standard landie gearing.

Unless you change the gearing the holden engine will not last very long at 100 km/h before it self distructs ( a leg out of bed )
Higher range transfer case from 4x4 in blackburn would be my first port of call before changing the engines:cool:

thanks for the input guys.
I do have a Fairey Overdrive and a friend of mine has exactly the same setup and has been running it for about 4 years with no adverse problems, so that is what I based my conversion on.
However, should I do have problems, a higher range transfer would be my first option.

Shame your so far away I'd swap my 202 with ya.
i do 120klm round trip to work each day, 90 klm of this on the hwy, the 202 screeaaaams at 100kph (no overdrive) i stick to about 80-90kph.
Also get about 270klm from the 10gal tank.

Thanks for all the extra info people.
Do any of you have had experience with a 202 and a Fairey Overdrive?, would appreciate some input on this, thank you.
I am assuming that the 5th gear would/should make a fair difference in engine RPM.
Like I said though, my SIII is purely a weekender, fitted out for camping and fly fishing, nothing more, but should the RPM be too excessive, I will get higher ratio transfer gearing.
