Does anyone know for sure if a rear P38A diff head (1998 so presume 4 pin) will fit in the front of my 1995 24 spline Defender? Just thought it might be a bit of an up grade that would bolt straight in. I am assuming (oh-oh:o) that the physical size, bolt pattern and ratio's are the same. Thanks in advance........jim.b.

The carrier and crown wheel/pinion is totally different, but i am unsure if the center is the same. The 4 gear p38 rears started in 95, and the fronts in 99. Give ashcroft transmisions in the uk an email and they will confirm if it will fit or not.

The some v8 90s came from factory with a 24 spline rear center with 4 spider gears.

Doesn't answer your question, but I know a Rover diff will go into the rear of a P38A type Defender. Only a temporary measure, but it does fit.

P38 bolt pattern slightly larger & so is the opening...
was looking at putting 4.7's into P38 but to hard...

Went in temporarily while sorting out the importation of some 4.11s.. which transpired to be 4.10s..

But the rover only lasted a few weeks before it too was missing crown wheel teeth...
